Tech Tip Tuesday
Your roof sealant has spent the whole summer baking in the Texas sun, and by late August it starts to show. UV exposure dries sealant out until it cracks and lifts, opening gaps you would need a ladder to notice.
A couple of times a year, and always after a summer like this one, get eyes on the roof. Look for cracked or lifted sealant around the vents, the skylights, the AC, and along the seams. Small gaps get resealed with the right product for your roof type. What you do not want to do is wait for the ceiling stain, because by then the water has been in the walls for weeks.
Not a ladder person? No shame in that. We do roof inspections all the time, and we would much rather catch it small.

Water pressure is different everywhere you go. City supply, well systems, elevation, even the time of day all move the number, so one stop might sit at a gentle 40 psi and the next comes in a good deal higher.

Your rig feels that difference more than a house would. RV plumbing is designed to run at lower pressure, and the fittings, water lines and toilet valves are the first to let go when it climbs. A burst line inside a wall is the expensive kind of surprise.

A water pressure regulator on the spigot takes the guesswork out of it. The adjustable ones with a gauge let you dial in around 45 to 50 psi and see exactly what your rig is getting. It's a small part that stands between you and a very soggy afternoon.

We keep them in stock at the parts store.

Should you leave your black tanks open? No! When the black tank valve is left open water instantly flows out but the solids end up on the bottom of the tank where they pile up and form the dreaded poo pyramid. Hello toilet clog and spendy hydrojet service! Plus, the smell of an open tank is super disrespectful
to your neighbor. Imagine grilling up some juicy burgers next to an open black tank. Please don't invite us to that cookout.

To everyone traveling with a four-legged copilot this summer, this one's for you.

An RV heats up fast when the air conditioning loses the fight, and on a 100 degree day that can happen quicker than a lunch stop. If your pets ever stay in the rig without you, the best protection is simple: leave the AC running, and use a temperature monitor that alerts your phone in case it quits. Park in shade where you can find it, run the roof vent fans to keep air moving, and know exactly what your power situation is before you walk away.

And give that good dog a scratch from all of us at RV EMT.

Everyone worries about RV batteries in the winter. Around here, it's the summer that kills them. Heat speeds up the chemistry inside a battery, and a battery that would last five years in a mild climate can give up after two or three Texas summers.

What helps: check the water level in flooded batteries monthly and top off with distilled water only, keep the terminals clean and tight, and put the batteries on a maintenance charger when the rig sits between trips.

If yours is on its third Texas summer and acting tired, come see us. We stock Interstate Batteries at the parts store and can get you set up with the right replacement.

At RV EMT, we get asked all the time where we do repairs. And the answer is, "Yes!"

RV Park? Absolutely!
Driveway? For sure!
Storage Facility? We love it there!
Ranch? Been there!
Deer Lease? You know it!

As a mobile RV repair service, we are where you are. Sure, we have an office at 1589 E Main (sandwiched between Sutherland's and the Law Enforcement Center in front of Hill Country RV Park), and an RV parts store and a whole warehouse full of goodies, but our workplace is your place. Every morning we load up the trucks with all the ladders, parts, and tools and head out to see you.

So, where are we meeting you?
