Effective 1/1/24 my shop rate will be increasing to $125/hr. I've recently purchased some new equipment to add even more capabilities than I've had before. I will also be splitting more of my time with my new venture Boss Fuel Injection to get that better established this coming year. Lots of exciting things coming I will be manufacturing very soon. Will be making posts as things finally come to fruition. I appreciate the continued support and amazing clientele I get to work with. Thank You!

The debut of Danny Ongias's Honda of Wilmington car this weekend at the Nitro Revival. Pictures are slowly coming in and it's been a long haul working on this car with a big team from the Midwest thrashing on it. I was asked to restore the injectors and also helped out with the Early Hemi engine. From historical pictures it had 3 different setups on top of the blower and I'm sharing a few original pictures and during my process restoring them. I went so far as to sell my Herbert Hat Injector (uber rare) from my personal collection so others can view and enjoy it, felt it needed to go to this car. As the sole guy restoring Hilborn Injectors I went the extra mile to make sure things were done period correct. I went so far as to develop the Hilborn hose crimps in house. It also took many months to nail down the proper color to match the Hilborn anodize gray casting color. Even took awhile to hunt down the proper fuel fittings used in 1965! Like to thank Josh Trail (Cerakote), TJ Zessin (CNC Wedge Spacer) for helping me on my end and Gary Cooper (always builds top notch Cackle Cars), and Chad Decatur (owner) for choosing me to be apart of this beautiful dragster. Thank you! 😎

Congrats to Jack Chisenhall for the win. My involvement on this one was related to the little Dodge Hemi. Jack went to a huge effort and had patterns made to cast these heads in aluminum in which he calls Speed Dome cylinder heads! This is huge news for the Early Hemi crowd as it's never been done before and will be available to the public in the very near future. In the past I designed a really neat lightweight valvetrain setup for the Dodge Hemi that works beautifully in his new heads. I've worked behind the scenes for years to persuade others to get involved with this engine platform as its a great addition to the hot rod crowd as a power plant. Since meeting Jack there has been a large aftermarket support growth bringing roller cam cores to market, aftermarket roller rockers, roller lifters, now aluminum cylinder heads, aluminum water pump housings, valley plates, valve covers and more. The potential for this engine platform has just been opened in a massive way as I feel this engine is perfect for hot rods like this. Watch for more news in the future related to these Early Dodge Hemis, alot of neat stuff is coming and can finally be talked about! 😎 Photo Credit: Modern Rodding.

Today marks my 20 year anniversary in business as Smithberg Racing! 😎 Somehow I managed to create something from nothing and last. I appreciate all the people who have helped me along the way and for the awesome customer base I have. I've been blessed very well! The cats out of the bag as they say..... I've decided to branch out my business a little more and open Boss Fuel Injection (find me on Facebook and Instagram - website soon) as a separate division underneath the same roof. I was given a huge opportunity a few years ago that alot of people are counting on me to continue tradition. So, behind the scenes I've been burning the candle at both ends like I've never done before to start and establish this side. It's been a huge struggle the past few months but I've made some good headway. I've spent a fortune getting organized, purchased stocking components, and still in process making tools of the trade. I have some really neat products I'm bringing to market soon that will hopefully take some things to new levels and will also be a supplier for other replacement parts. Restoration work is in motion which I thoroughly enjoy, nearly finished with this Early Olds Hilborn Injector in for a complete restoration. The last 20 years has been one hell of a ride, thank you to all who have supported me along the way, here's to the future! 😎💯🏁

PSA: The time has come, the flood gate is closed! While I feel extremely blessed, my phone and email is full constantly. Everyday I wake up with inquiries for me to do work on people's projects and there isn't enough time to tackle it all. At this time I'm currently at about a year out pending the parts shortages everyone in the industry is experiencing. Until I can get caught up I'm not taking on anymore big projects. Little repairs or consulting will be open still in the meantime. If you are on my list right now you will stay there, no new names to hold a spot until the gate opens again.

Also I have some news coming at the end of the month, some changes are taking place here and some celebration is in order!

Carry on! 😉

EFFECTIVE 1/1/22:

A few things I needed to announce for some upcoming changes within my business for the upcoming year.

1. The new shop hourly rate will be going to $115/hr in January. All services will be based on this rate and adjusted accordingly.

2. I get a large amount of inquiries on a regular basis. I try to get to each one within a few days with a call back or response so please have patience if it takes longer. Many of these have been very time consuming turning into consultation. Moving forward I'm going to charge for my time with consultation. I enjoy sharing my knowledge on various subjects to help people navigate their projects and have done so for many years but this has been a battle getting work out the door because of it, I'm simply getting overwhelmed. Many people calling have been gracious to pay for my time and been very appreciative so I feel it's time to start taking them up on their offers.

3. Looking into 2022 I'm already booked for the next 6-9 months at a minimum. Parts shortages country wide has prolonged many projects here, so I plan to be far more selective on what I take on especially if it is a large time consuming project. Please inquire about your project by email - [email protected] and I will consider it.

4. As many know Hilborn was purchased by Holley and I have a rather large amount of inventory that was left behind that needs completed. I have made multiple fixtures and bought tooling to make shafts, throttle blades, linkage, and ram tubes. I have done many restorations on Hilborn units over the years but now some folks at Hilborn/Holley have been sending people my way to carry on Hilborn's tradition that I plan to honor. While this could be considered a separate business in itself it will be incorporated into what I'm already doing. As this side ramps up my website will get updated but all items will start off a "per order basis."

As always, I appreciate the support and the awesome customers I've worked with over the years. Looking forward to this new year as I'm creeping up on my 20th year doing what I do this summer!

Thank you, and enjoy the holiday!

The world around us constantly changes so you must change with it. When the Edelbrock Group purchased Comp Cams and Crane Cams both sides combined. The bad news for Early Hemi folks is we lost the lifter supply which was my go to lifter for years and great success running them far past their recommendations. Well, today I can officially say I have a new supplier for both solid and hydraulic roller lifters to replace the Crane line. Both companies are proudly Made in USA and have ties to the Crane designs. I will be stocking these lifters moving forward and as supply chains flow again. The hydraulic roller lifters are excellent and I have a new design being built for Dodge and Desoto Early Hemis. The solid rollers I'm extremely excited about! These are rebuildable (Crane was not) and have a few different upgrade options - needle bearing, bronze bushed, DLC Steel bushed. I also have a prototype lifter here for dry lifter bores for the Nitro/Alcohol engines. This main Early Hemi lifter has a very tall pushrod seat height at +.480 taller than the standard Ultra Pro lifter. This means nearly a 1/2" shorter pushrod and the same lifter body can be used in the 331/354 short deck and 392 tall deck blocks without hitting the tie bar rivet using 7/16" pushrods. I have limited supply here now for those interested, will be updating my website soon with pricing. Contact me if you are in the market.

There are some projects that stand out for me and Aaron Leeper's "Dirty Penny" is one of them. Projects like these drive new products to bring to market or push your abilities to new levels. Our goal was to have an EFI System that functioned properly but wasn't taking away from the look of the engine. Port injection hidden below the manifold, spray injection above the blower tucked in nice and tight, new crank trigger setup, offset rocker stands, trick valvetrain just to name a few. One step closer in his pursuit of his goals. 😎

After multiple PM's from people about my Deck Height Gauge I decided to make a run at them. Features a black hard anodized 6061 aluminum body, black oxide coated steel foot with shaft, and a .0005 increment 1" travel indicator. It can be used a few different ways but what has been a time saver for me is to find the low corner quickly to know which side to deck first. To be used with BHJ Centering Rings and a 2" precision ground shaft common with BHJ Tooling Products. You can make a standard using a sleeve to set the gauge from a known height or you can use a BHJ Block Tru to measure from and set the gauge to zero at the desired finish height. Great for quick in process spot check. Deck height adjustability from a set screw on the top plate for quick adjustment. Has proven to be super useful in my shop and haven't seen anything marketed like this to date. Have some of these available now, $400 shipped to the lower 48 states. Please contact me for purchase.
