Knocked out some tuning on this Ls3 C6 GS Corvette for Hypermotive Performance after they put in a new LS3 with a Brian Tooley Racing red hot cam and set of American Racing Headers connected to the stock mufflers. Unfortunately this one didn't have the OEM NPP mufflers just the normal ones. No other mods just headers and the red hot (with supporting cam installation stuff springs, pushrods, and trunnions).

Came in on a tow truck completely stock not running needing an engine somehow. But now it's leaving with 467whp and 430lb-ft of Tq.

Baseline stock heads stock intake 469/426

563hp from a heads cam ls3 without fly cutting the pistons with a set of Brian Tooley Racing CV CNC Ported Ls3 heads and the trinity intake manifold with a nick Williams 103 throttle body. This netted a gain of 94hp at peak and 101hp at 6800rpm over the stock heads and stock intake manifold.

523 is the stock ls3 intake manifold and stock ls3 throttle body with the BTR CV CNC Ported Ls3 heads.

I have the BTR CV CNC Ported Ls3 heads in stock ready to install or ship! 50% off tuning when purchasing a set of heads for new customer. Free tuning for current customers.

Update with more numbers from testing the Brian Tooley Racing Ls3 trinity and CV CNC Ported Ls3 heads. These heads are from BTR with the port program from BTR. Just to note this is not a cylinder head shootout, this is to show real world numbers on a car with the dyno from how changing the heads and intake perform over the stock heads and stock intake. Since most guys who buy heads are usually swapping from stock heads this is to show just that, nothing else. If you're looking for a cylinder head shootout comparing all sorts of heads this is the wrong post. Hopefully soon someone will do that.

The test car
C6 Corvette
Manual transmission
Sbe ls3
Ls3 head gasket
Stock 821s with btr 660 springs
Unknown cam (it made 10hp less on baseline than another manual ls3 c6 did that had the tsp s3 na cam)
Kooks 1 7/8 headers with cats
3" Exhaust to Stock mufflers that have 2.5" inlet
Stock ls3 intake manifold
K&N air intake.

Stock 821 have a combination chamber size in the 68-69cc range. The BTR heads are 64cc out of the box so you'll have about a half point in compression bump with a stock ls3 piston. You also gain piston to valve clearance while raising the compression, that is always good on an all motor application. Stock ls3 heads with stock ls3 head gaskets has a compression ratio of 10.7:1, 64cc chamber heads with ls3 head gaskets puts the Ls3 around the 11.3:1 mark.

Dyno numbers

Stock Ls3 intake manifold stock throttle body and stock ls3 heads 469hp at 6510rpm 426lb-ft at 5383rpm

Stock ls3 heads with the BTR Ls3 trinity and the stock throttle body 494hp at 7090rpm 404lb-ft at 5733rpm

Stock ls3 heads with the BTR Ls3 trinity and the 103mm throttle body 504hp at 7002rpm 407.9lb-ft at 5611rpm

Now to the canted valve heads final numbers
BTR CV3 Heads stock ls3 intake manifold stock throttle body 523hp at 6932rpm 459lb-ft at 5483rpm

BTR CV3 Heads Ls3 Trinity with the 103mm throttle body 563hp at 7163rpm 435lb-ft at 6061rpm

BTR Heads with the BTR Trinity had a gain at peak of 94hp, at 6800rpm the gain was 101hp over the stock ls3 heads and stock ls3 intake manifold.

How the heads tune ended up being changed where it made peak hp. The 821s heads ended up making the best power with timing at 24.5* at pk hp. The CV heads made the 563hp with 22* of timing. Which is pretty common to not need as much timing in a car when the compression is raised and the head is more efficient. Both the stock heads and the CV heads didn't seem to care for any particular AFR this is fairly common on mild NA stuff.

The last pictures will be each intake manifold compared with each head.

I can't upload pictures and videos on the same post at the same time. I'll add videos either to the comments or on YouTube showing the difference throughout the RPM ranges with each head and each intake manifold.

THE WAIT IS OVER! Brian Tooley Racing Ls3 canted valve heads back to back testing. Testing car is a Ls3 manual C6. No cams changed no other parts added.

Baseline 469hp at 6510 426tq at 5383
Sbe ls3
Ls3 head gasket
Stock 821s with btr 660 springs
Unknown cam (made 10hp less on baseline than tsp s3 na cam)
Kooks 1 7/8 headers with cats
Old k&n intake filter is filthy
3" Exhaust to Stock mufflers that have 2.5 inlet
Stock ls3 intake

Yellow/white only change is the LS3 CV heads. We used ls3 head gasket again.

***SAME TUNE FOR BOTH RUNS*** I haven't even dialed in the tune it can use some touching up now. I'll update the post later with tuning details.

Results
515.7hp at 6651rpm 457tq at 5334rpm

At 3200rpm cv heads are up 7hp 12tq
At 3500rpm cv heads are up 9hp 13tq
At 4000rpm cv heads are up 12hp 16tq
At 4650rpm cv heads are up 24hp 27tq
At 5800rpm cv heads are up 37hp
At 6100rpm CV heads are up 40hp
At 6800rpm the CV heads are up 52hp over stock 821

I'll offer 50% off tuning (remote or dyno) when paired with buying a set of heads!

You've heard of tech tip Tuesday. Welcome to waste time Wednesday. Tuning is tuning that is it. Tuning isn't an install, tuning isn't a diagnostic appointment, tuning isn't let's hangout and spend the day together, tuning appointments aren't a tuning class. If you need more than tuning you need to schedule more than tuning.

Internet "LS7 lifters can't rev over 7000rpm"

Fact checked false. The valvetrain matters, cam design, pushrods, springs, and valve weight all matter here. If you can't control the valve you can't rev the valve.

In this video it's an all motor cam only SBE LS3, OEM Gm "LS7" lifters with stock 821 heads OEM LS3 2.165 intake intake valves, OEM Ls3 1.59 exhaust valves, Brian Tooley Racing 660 springs with TI retainers, stock GM Ls3 rockers with the BTR TK002 trunnions.

I have cars that have been running 7000+ rpm for years on the "LS7" lifter without issue. You're going to run into issues with very heavy valves, weak springs, heavy aftermarket rocker arms, bad cam designs, and overall bad valvetrain setups.

The LS7 Lifter is not an upgrade for gen4 and newer stuff. LS3 and LS7 use the same lifter from GM.

Idle video with the All American camshaft from Cam Motion with a stock exhaust including OEM NPP mufflers on this Ls3 C6 Corvette. This cam drives incredible, feels like stock at low rpm and part throttle, adds a decent amount of power in from 6000-6900rpm over a stock Ls3 cam, while still maintaining low end and mid range like the stock cam has.

Finally getting to test these in person! Baseline dyno runs are done for the stock LS3 heads. Now it's time to pull it apart and get the Ls3 canted valve heads from Brian Tooley Racing put on and see how they do with no other changes.

I have plenty of data from other heads vs stock heads from ported stock heads to afr 260s. This will be unbiased as I have nothing to gain or lose from this. If the heads don't perform great I'm still publishing the results, if they do better than everything ever made I'll still publish the results.

Monday 23 August update: As stated previously this is an off the clock job for free. I didn't get a chance to mess with it today. The next update will be whenever I dyno the car. So if there's no update I didn't get to it yet. Thanks for understanding.

Friday 28 August. Heads are on pulls are done.

Here's your reminder to do maintenance on your car! Guys will come in wanting a tune but yet they have 30k miles on spark plugs and their air filter looks like it's had a rough life. Just do basic maintenance people it isn't hard.

This was a header only C7. No tune changes no cool down time. Did a pull, put a fresh set of plugs in and did another pull. No idea how many miles were on the old spark plugs. As you can see gains everywhere with a 7hp and 8ft/lbs gained at peak, larger gains some sports before and after peak numbers.

I've seen boosted cars pick up several PSI of boost from an air filter swap. I've also seen boosted cars pick up 20+ whp from new plugs. If the car isn't breathing properly with good spark it's going to be down on power.
