Window Tint Heat Rejection 101.

A film can be very dark and still let a lot of heat through. Or lighter, and block significantly more heat. What actually matters is the technology behind the film, not just the shade percentage.

Low-grade dyed film, the kind a lot of $200 jobs use, works by absorbing light instead of reflecting heat. It darkens the glass but does very little for the heat itself. It just sits there and gets hot.

Over time the dye breaks down from UV exposure and starts turning purple. (Not all dyed film is like this, there's quality color-stable dyed film out there too, but it's not built for serious heat rejection.)

High-performance film is a big step up. It uses a metal/dye hybrid construction that reflects heat instead of just absorbing it, rejecting a strong majority of the heat coming through the glass. It also holds its color over time instead of fading, and the film I run handles signal just fine, no issues with phone or GPS.

This is what most of my customers run, and the heat difference compared to low-grade dyed film is night and day.

Ceramic film takes it even further. It uses ceramic particles instead of metal or dye to block heat, rejects even more than HP, and stays color-stable for life. It's the option if you want the absolute most heat rejection available.

At the end of the day, the film technology and the quality of the install are what actually determine how much heat you feel on a hot day. Not just how dark the glass looks.
