Over the past few weeks ive had the pleasure to work on Mr Roman Cosner's 64 Nova. UMTR 4 speed car turned into a small tire bracket weapon. After ripping all the old existing wiring and components out of the inside, Roman gave me the opportunity to lay this thing out just as if I was building my own car.
Starting in the front of the car Roman wanted to swap out the old halogens for a set of halo led lights. On the other side of the core support I added a crank trigger, wired/plumbed a full NX/snow performance gas fuel system for the nos, wired all nos solenoids, installed lean out, led engine bay lights and mounted/plumbed a new line lock. Everything in the engine bay was put in wire loom and on weather pack connectors to support ease of part swapping in the future since most companies use those over Deutsch connectors out of the box. The last item of the engine bay was a new LOUD horn to replace the blown out factory one.
Jumping to the rear of the car things were alittle more involved than most other cars that ive put together and made for a long day laying on the ground but in the end it was all worth it. The features in and under the trunk of this beauty are two 16v batteries, nos bottle with heater on a switch, inside/rear shutoff 4 post master switch, magnafuel fuel pump, a Jones transmission pump/fan combo and LED tail light conversion. The cherry on top of the trunk clean up was a M20 fuel cell light for night time racing!
Finally we are to the inside of the car which is my favorite part of the build. Started off with getting a feeling of where things seemed to fit the best for looks and functionality. An ARC switch panel and relay board was the first item that was placed on the car. After going over a few different options with the car owner it was decided that we would call our best pal at Mikey Mountz and utilize a few of his universal mounts for the delay box/dial controller and no box button. After melting some metal together I was super pumped on how they looked in the car and really made me realize how universal these mounts can be. Once again I decided to mount the grid and every else electrical in the passenger floor board on a panel for easy accessibility in case there are any issues in the future. Labels were put on dang near everything making it super easy to identify all wires. Becoming a standard option over here at NBJF has been the deutsch connectors and holder for the steering wheel buttons. Cleans everything in that area up and eliminates the need for an additional terminal strip. We moved the old gauges from under the dash and moved all of them into a replacement cluster bezel in the stock location which really set off the inside makeover. A cooling fan for the hot days and a bright LED interior lights were the last 2 items put in to complete this project. All switches and buttons were used in existing or factory holes to keep the stock appearing look as best as possible.
This car has been sitting for quite some time and needing some love in the wire department so I cant thank Roman enough for trusting me with his car and getting it that much closer to being out on the track. For anyone looking to get any racecar related work done in the near future, I am booking out into December and January at this point. Reach out for any quotes or questions one anything racecar related and thank you to all of my customers that trust me with their hotrods!
