Like many fans of the popular sci-fi series Supernatural, my girls and I fell in love with the star of the show. Not Dean or Sam, no, the beautiful 1967 4 door Hardtop Impala, Baby. We set off on a journey of building our own replica in Jan 2015. Two years later we had our car on the road and in the car shows.
With countless hours and the help of 3 generations and good friends, we were able to restore every last bolt in a full frame-off restoration. We cleaned off 50 yrs of rust from every corner of the car and built her back up stronger than ever with a 383 Stroker race engine and a throaty dual exhaust to announce her coming and going. Every feature of the car was brought back to new from the original factory AC and mechanical dash clock, to modern swaps like the 4 wheel disc brakes and an overdrive transmission. I kept costs down by parting out a couple cars to provide more OEM parts and made some cash sales on extra parts to the Impala community. I was able to complete all the restoration work myself in my back shop except for the car’s paint and upholstery. Today the journey continues as “Maupin Metal” to mark my expansion into additional classic cars for-profit and the start of our build of a Hero 1 (big block) replica Baby.
