From the town of Amalfi we visited Ravello. Our favorite was Villa Cimbrone with its gorgeous gardens featuring wisteria draped pergola and the Infinity terrace overlooking the sea and Amalfi Coast. We walked back to Amalfi via lots of steps - about 1500- but all downhill. Whew! It’s a beautiful walk, worth it for the views. Stopping in Atrani for lunch then finding the pedestrian tunnel that puts you back in Amalfi. Next we visited Positano and ended the day with gelato and drinks before taking the ferry back to Amalfi.

Post cruise we drive to the Amalfi coast and stayed in the town of Amalfi. We had amazing views from our room and outdoor terrace. Amalfi- a central location on the Amalfi coast with cobblestone streets, pastel buildings stacked up the cliffside, the Duomo di Amalfi, cute shops and restaurants. By day it can be crowded and by night the day trippers have left you with a quiet town. We stayed at a gem- great views from the cliff top Hotel Miramalfi. Founded in 1956, 70 years later it is still family run. We could walk to town in 15 minutes but we also used the hotel’s car to get from the town center to the hotel. The beach club is accessed by a cliff elevator with a curving pool that appears to be carved into the cliffside. The hotel staff was warm and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile and a buongiorno.

Our last port before Civitavecchia was a cute little town - Porto Santo Stefano - on Italy’s Monte Argentario peninsula in Tuscany. Porto Santo Stefano is known for its maritime tradition and Spanish fortress, and features a picturesque harbor and waterfront restaurants serving fresh seafood. We chose Lo Sfizio and enjoyed one of our favorite meals. My fresh catch of the day was chef’s kiss. ⛵️⚓️

After a few hours in Lucca we took the train to Florence for an overnight. Our hotel had a great spot and lovely views of the Ponte Vecchio bridge and Arno River. We also discovered a few historic buchette del vino (wine windows). These small 16th-century wall-mounted portals were used by noble families to sell wine directly to the public and have been revived today for wine, cocktails, and gelato. As always jewelry shops line the Ponte Vecchio bridge but we opted to shop for the leather goods beyond.

Next port was Livorno. We took a train to Lucca, a charming walled city with Renaissance era walls.

Our next stop was Portonovere, considered the gateway to Cinque Terre. We hiked from Vernazza to Monterosso al Mare. Would love to return to hike all five villages.

Next port stop was Santa Margherita Ligure. We walked to nearby Portofino which involves a path near the road and shore then a path through a the Portofino Natural Park. Portofino is described as a small fishing village but it is truly a high end town that a few top luxury properties, restaurants and shopping. They were hosting a local food and wine festival on the day we visited.

Day trip to Monte Carlo, Monaco 🇲🇨 from Nice. We were here way back in 1994 and things have changed. Fun to see the F1 track.

Palamos, Spain, a fishing town in the Costa Brava known for its large port, fine-sand beaches, and famous prawns- we had some in the paella at lunch. Its attractions include the Fishing Museum, the Platja Gran beach, and the charming old town with its Gothic church.

A couple of days in Barcelona pre-cruise. A highlight was the flamenco show at the Palau de la Musica Catalana. Loving this city. #

Reminder: Greece is always a good idea! I recently met with several representatives of properties in Greece and it brought back so many memories of Athens, Santorini, Mykonos and Paros. Plus I got some great information on a new property coming to Milos, and a new destination to visit- Cyprus.
