Years ago, we learned a very valuable lesson on building relationships with clients. Always be clear, on time, and go above and beyond! Not everything has to be about money some people just are in need and 9/10 God sent you there for a reason just know it’s always a lesson! I had initially charged this client an “arm and leg” for his vehicle at the time it was mainly about how much money I could make. Of course, I’d be lying if I said I’m not in a “for-profit” business.
He said “buddy I owned this car for 6 years, garage kept, never had a wash mit on the paint, oh and it has 3200 miles on it.” Then he continues and says “Guess how old I am!” At the time he was a older gentlemen so I had said “not a day over 25!” He laughed and proceeded to say “Son I’m 72 years old, had back surgery last week. I’m getting to old to go out there and wash this beauty so when I reached out to you I thought you was the best and I figured you would’ve had a straight head. Just because I’m older doesn’t mean you can get over on me, respectfully.”
We talked more, we ended up negotiating the price down 90% because if he didn’t correct me in a way that I needed to be then I still would doing this for the money. Sometimes it really is just about taking care of those in need. My lesson from this moment was to be grateful for the opportunities to give back whenever possible! Someone gave to me so I must pay it back!
