Over the past three years, I’ve been slowly transitioning my tool setup from to .
And no, it’s not because of a warranty issue or because I suddenly stopped liking Craftsman. Craftsman has been my go-to tool brand for many years. When you work with vehicle electrical systems and need a truly mobile setup, however, your tool storage and organization become just as important as the tools themselves.
For me, Klein has been able to fill that gap with the MODbox system. There’s just one catch: converting an entire setup costs money. 😂
I’m also a bit of a pack rat when it comes to tools and equipment, so I’ve accumulated quite a collection of cases, chests, organizers, and accessories over the years. The problem is that all of that stuff takes up valuable space in my trailer.
Back when Sears was still around, I was fortunate enough to have a local Craftsman dealer work with me and donate several tool cases. They always seemed to have exactly what I needed in stock, which made expanding and reorganizing my setup much easier.
Unfortunately, my experience with has been a little different. I’ve chosen Lowe’s as one of my primary places to purchase Klein tools, MODbox components, and accessories, but they rarely seem to have the specific items I’m looking for in stock.
That leaves me constantly saying, “I’ll wait until it’s in stock.”
And, honestly, that usually turns into me never buying the item I needed in the first place. 😂
And before anyone suggests Milwaukee — that’s not happening. Unless someone wants to gift me the entire setup, I’m sticking with the brands I’ve trusted and used for years.
My toolbox is a mix of Craftsman, Klein, DeWalt, and several specialty tool brands that have earned their place in my setup. I’ve also purchased Snap-on tools over the years, but personally, I’ve always found the replacement process more difficult than I’d like when I actually need something taken care of.
At the end of the day, I’m not loyal to a brand simply because of the name on the box. I stick with tools that have proven themselves in the kind of work I do.
The transition to MODbox is going to take time — and probably a lot more money than I care to admit — but I’m slowly getting there. 🔧⚡️
