“Collect moments, not things.” — Anonymous

The best memories aren’t found on a shelf—they’re made around campfires, on open roads, and in the little unexpected moments along the way.

At Hoosier RV, we believe the real value of a trip isn’t what you bring home—it’s what you experience while you’re out there. Family laughs, sunset views, quiet mornings by the lake
those are the things that stay with you long after the weekend ends.

The RV Boom Didn’t Happen by Accident

The RV boom in the 1950s wasn’t just about travel—it was fueled by a perfect storm of innovation, culture, and infrastructure changes in America.

After WWII, families wanted freedom, flexibility, and affordable ways to explore the country. At the same time, the U.S. was transforming:
~The Interstate Highway System (authorized in 1956) created fast, smooth roads that made long-distance RV travel practical for the first time in history.
~Campgrounds began rapidly expanding along new highways to meet growing travel demand.
~ Car ownership skyrocketed, and families needed something they could tow behind their everyday vehicle.
~ Roadside attractions—like diners, motels, and quirky landmarks—became part of the “American road trip experience,” and RVs fit right into it.
~ Surplus military manufacturing from WWII helped RV builders scale quickly and affordably.
~ Families were also shifting toward more leisure time and vacation travel, making road trips a cultural norm rather than a luxury.

What started as a post-war desire for freedom turned into a full-blown movement that helped define the American lifestyle we still see today.

In many ways, the RV wasn’t just part of the boom—it was the symbol of it.
