Pollinators are loving the sunflowers! Now we’re just waiting on dove season! 🌻🐝🕊️

These are Peredovik sunflowers that we planted the last week of May. We broadcasted them a little thick, but I think we'll be alright!

Immediately after planting, we sprayed Roundup and Dual to help knock back the w**d pressure. Once I knew we had a good stand, I fertilized them during the second week of June with 100 pounds per acre of 13-13-13.

We also had a pretty bad johnsongrass problem, so I sprayed clethodim to contain it the best I could. As you can see in the video, there’s still some johnsongrass right around the spot where my sprayer ran out!

Around July 4, just before the sunflowers started heading out, I spread 50 pounds per acre of 46-0-0 to give them one last boost and help them produce plenty of seed for the doves. That same day, I planted browntop millet around the edge of the field to provide as many groceries as possible!

Depending on what they look like at the end of August since we planted a little late I may hit them with a burn down shot!
