School is back in session across the entire Tri-Cities now, with Colonial Heights, Chesterfield, and Prince George joining Petersburg students. That means buses are running full routes on local roads. Virginia law requires drivers to stop when a bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm out, from any direction, unless there is a median or barrier between you. The fine starts at 250 dollars, but the real reason to stop is simple, kids are getting on and off.

When you see a tow truck or any stopped vehicle with hazard lights on, Virginia law asks you to move over a lane or slow down if you can't. It only takes a few seconds, but it makes a real difference for the people working on the side of the road, including our own drivers. Give us room to do our job safely.

Afternoon storms roll through the Tri-Cities often this time of year, and low spots can flood fast. If you come up on standing water, do not try to push through it. Water depth is hard to judge, and it does not take much to stall a car or cause real damage. Turn around and find another way if you can.
