For decades, the front-wheel-drive four-cylinder division was the punchline of Saturday night short track racing. Dismissed as "junk cars," "grocery getters," or just filler for the program, the class was widely viewed as an entry-level stepping stone rather than a destination. But anyone holding onto that outdated stereotype hasn't been paying attention to the Sport Compact Dirt Racing Association (SCDRA), and they certainly haven't seen the spectacle unfolding at Mansfield Speedway's 15th Annual The King Of Compacts during the Rust Bowl Nationals.

For the better part of sixteen years, Must See Racing was the undisputed gold standard for winged pavement sprint car action across the Midwest and beyond. When the hauling rigs rolled into the pit area at facilities like Berlin or Anderson, fans knew they were in for a masterclass in speed. But ever since founder Jim Hanks unexpectedly sold the series and stepped away this past March, the organization that once prided itself on presenting the "World’s Fastest Short Track Cars" has been fighting a severe mechanical failure in the front office.

For any race car driver who grew up attending races at Fremont Speedway presented by the FriendShip Kitchen, the annual race at the Sandusky County Fair was special. Bryan Sebetto, has won a lot of big races at “The Track That Action Built,” but winning the fair race was on his bucket list and he checked it off Monday on Fremont Fence/Vision Quest/Coaches Corner Night to kick off the 174th Sandusky Fair.

On a special Friday night under the lights, Michaels Mercer Raceway Park Presented by Sunbelt Rentals and Erme’s Distributing, was blessed with a beautiful late-summer evening. Seven divisions were on tap for the night, with 125 cars in the pits. Brandon Spithaler won his 14th career 410 Sprint feature; Jeremy Kornbau recorded his 13th career Mercer Mercantile IMCA RaceSaver 305 Sprint feature; Logan Lewis captured the $2,000-to-win Mark Marcucci Tribute for the Mod Lites; John Mollick continued his winning ways, picking up his third career RUSH Sprint Car feature; Karston King picked up his second career Mercer Top Shelf Trucking DIRT 602 Crate Sportsman Modified feature; Skylar Cline won the 270cc Micro Sprint feature; and Dave Hanshaw Jr. won the Crown Vic event.
