One of the questions we get frequently is about nitrogen vs air in tires. In a nutshell:
1. Yes, it’s safe to mix air with nitrogen - air is nearly 80% nitrogen anyway.
2. Nitrogen leaks out of tires more slowly than air, but only slightly (and this doesn’t include sources of acute leaks such as nails and faulty valve stems; in these situations, nitrogen makes no difference).
3. Nitrogen is unnecessarily expensive unless you are in a situation where ultra-high performance matters, such as race car drivers.
4. The green valve stem caps indicate that your tires were filled with pure nitrogen at some point. Once air has been added, the green caps serve no function.
