We found him in Rochester, NY, via ebay, and we snagged him for $2500, and trailered him home, which at the time was NE Ohio. We've been fans of SUPERNATURAL since the very first season, and we knew early on that we'd have to have an Impala just like 'Baby' on the show. Sammy started out as a rather heavily-optioned Caprice, Capri Cream with a black vinyl top and gold interior. He came off the lin
e with the 327 4-barrel rated at 275 HP mated to a specially ordered TH 400 3-speed. He also has AC, Power Brakes and Steering, plus front speakers and a rear window defogger. He'd clocked over 112,000 miles in 31 years. We have the original GM Protecto-Plate, confirming that Sammy retained his original drivetrain. Decoding of his cowl tag indicates Sammy rolled off the assembly line in Janesville, WI (the same plant as Baby!) the second week of July, 1967. He was number 192,323 off the line that year at Janesville, and number 9,275 of Caprices produced. Definitely one of the last '67s to roll off the line before re-tooling for 1968. Sammy was delivered to The Tyler Auto Company of Tyler, MN on August 25, 1967. His first owner took possession of him on September 3, 1967, with a second owner a couple years later. As far as we can tell, Sammy spent 29 years in Tyler. We're pretty sure he was in 'storage' from 1992 though 2006, surfacing in Brookings, ND before ending up in Rochester. Everything ground to a halt early in 2009, as real-life events forced us to halt all work on Sammy. We landed in SW Florida in November of 2011, and though Sammy was safe and secure in our garage, we weren't able to continue working on him. By July of 2016, we'd socked away enough to rebuild Sammy's drivetrain. We'd developed a good relationship with a small local garage who specialized in old muscle cars on the side, and by August, Sammy's original 327 and TH400 were better than new. And in March, 2017, things really got crazy! For years, we'd been watching YouTube videos of some guy in Kansas who rebuilt '67 4-door hardtops into replicas of Baby on SUPERNATURAL. Someone going by the name projectthx138. A guy named Rick Blevins. We watched Rick's videos religiously, always imagining our Sammy receiving the same treatment. "No way," we said. "It's too far away." "He's too busy." "We'd never get Sammy out there." "It'd be too expensive." But we still watched Rick's videos, and one Sunday afternoon, after a little 'liquid' courage, we messaged Rick about our Sammy. We didn't think we'd get an answer, but a few minutes later, Rick was on the phone! And by July, 2017, our Sammy was in Garnett at The Shop! After an extensive and thorough frame-off restoration, the transformation was finally complete and we were able to journey to Kansas in April, 2019 to pick up Sammy and bring him home! Sure, it takes time, and money, but dreams are priceless. And we must always keep fighting! Sammy is now safe and secure in his bunker in Southwest Florida. With a fully stocked weapon’s box, he’s ready to connect with fans at regional or local events, car shows, conventions, and other special events.
