An automatic transmission in a sports car used to be punishment, but that all changed in 2008. The ZF8 was born, lightning fast shifts, comfort and refinement, launch control and able to withstand up to 1000Nm of torque. The design was so good General Motors copied the design and swapped planetary gearsets 1 and 3 to make the 8L90 Hydramatic. Stellantis skipped that and licensed it as the TorqueFlite8. BMW dropped their DCT transmissions for it. It really was and still is that good.
