❄️ A/C Not Blowing As Cold As It Used To? ❄️
This vehicle came in blowing cold air… but not nearly as cold as it should have been.
When I asked the owner when the last time the A/C system had been checked was, he couldn’t remember if it had ever been serviced.
After performing a complete A/C service, I found the system was approximately 1 pound low on refrigerant.
Many people don’t realize that automotive A/C systems can develop very small leaks over time. Common leak points include:
🔹 Service port Schrader valves
🔹 O-rings and hose connections
🔹 Compressor shaft seals
🔹 Condensers damaged by road debris
In fact, the service ports themselves are one of the most common leak locations on an A/C system. That’s why when I perform an A/C recharge service, I replace the service port valves and caps as part of the process whenever needed. These small components can save customers from future refrigerant loss.
A properly sealed system can lose very little refrigerant over many years, but even a slow leak can eventually reduce cooling performance and cause the compressor to work harder than necessary. Some systems lose refrigerant gradually through aging seals, hose permeation, or minor leaks that develop over time.
The result?
✅ Vent temperatures dropped significantly
✅ Ice-cold air restored
✅ System operating at proper pressures again
✅ Reduced strain on the A/C compressor
The client had gotten used to the way the A/C was performing and didn’t realize how much cooling capacity had been lost until it was restored.
Sometimes your A/C doesn’t stop working overnight, it slowly loses performance year after year.
