BBLACC Member Cars Jeffry and Marijean Newman:

I have owned my '64 Thunderbird for 40 years. It is factory equipped with power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power windows, power driver's seat, and a semi-rare fully reclining passenger seat with adjustable head rest. It is family-owned since new, having been purchased by my Grandfather at Pacific Ford in Long Beach, California in 1964. It is currently in my garage waiting to be finished with repairs and restoration.

Our most recent purchase is a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe Sedan Coupe from Arizona and trailered home to Big Bear. It has had a full frame-off restoration approximately 20 years ago, rebuilt in a period hot rod style. It has a '47 Mercury Flathead, aluminum heads and dual Stromberg aluminum intake manifold, headers, dual exhaust, and 12 volt conversion. It still has the original 3 speed trans and a Columbia 2 speed differential. The interior has been redone mostly original, with a digital dash and vintage air conditioning. It is fun to drive and we enjoy taking it on Club cruises and to Car Shows.

Now for the exciting news of who won the Chevy 350 cu. In. Engine and the Fire pedal truck from our 2026 Fun Run! The drawing was held at the conclusion of the Awards ceremony Sunday August 9th.

Both of our winners are close to home in Big Bear and part of the annual Fun Run. Mike Struss of Sugarloaf was the lucky winner of the Chevy 350 Engine with the winning ticket of #3371. He had bought 4 tickets for the engine raffle and was quite excited that he had won when I called him. He came right away with his pick-up truck from home to claim his Engine prize while we were packing up after the Fun Run in Bartlett Parking lot. Later that day, master engine builder Stan “Digger” O’Dell helped him transfer the engine into the back of his pick-up truck.

Now the winner of the Fire pedal truck was quite a surprise with our long-time Fun Run Photographer Dave Parker having the winning number of #3458. Dave was quite honored and course we had to get a photo with him and his prize. However, Dave found it very fitting to then donate the Fire pedal truck to Dewey Compton who won the “Best Special Interest” Big Bear Fun Run Award with his 1951 Seagraves Fire Truck.

Congrats to the winners and thank you to everyone who purchased tickets. The funds will go back in to club selected Community Organizations in the Big Bear Valley and a Scholarship to a High School Senior in 2027.

This past weekend a few car club members placed all cars registered on the Village Map for the Big Bear Lake Antique Car Club Fun Run Aug. 8th. Registration is filled however if anyone wants to come participate please come Friday, Aug. 7th to the registration table on Barlett so you know where to park on Saturday.
