As the BMW B58 engines are aging, we are find more common failures that we are trying to work into the preventative maintenance schedule. One of these common failure points on the earlier B58 engines is the oil pump. The original oil pumps uses a plastic housing. These plastic housings are cracking and breaking which can lead to initially high oil pressure, low oil pressure, or when they completely let go, no oil pressure at all. This usually leads to complete engine failure. This week we had this 2020 Supra in for the oil pump replacement and luckily we caught it before it started to crack or fail. The new pumps are made entirely of metal which prevents this issue in the future.
