"I’ve been a Travelift Operator here for two and a half years and it never gets old seeing all these different kinds of boats getting moved around the yard. Before coming to Jarrett Bay, I got a lot of experience as a Marine Corps mechanic and crane operator so this role was a great fit for me even though I didn’t know much about boats at the time. Being successful in this job really boils down to never getting too comfortable. When you're dealing with heavy equipment and lifting huge boats, you learn something new every day, so you always have to keep your eyes open and stay totally focused on what's right in front of you."

"I just hit my five-year anniversary here, moving into shipping and receiving after starting out over at the East'ard parts store. Shipping and receiving is really the hub of the whole yard so it keeps me busy every single day so I never get bored. It's great getting to meet so many different people and constantly learning about all the unique boat parts that come through our doors. My biggest advice for new workers is just to have a strong work ethic. If you’re confident and aren't afraid to ask questions, you’ll be successful here."

"I’ve been a finish carpenter here since 1999, and my favorite part of the job is seeing these boats come together from a pile of wood into a finished work of art. It sounds simple but my favorite part of my job is building cool stuff. It’s a blend of getting to be creative but also working with your hands. I try to treat every cabinet or piece of furniture like a piece of art, taking a lot of pride in the tiny details and making sure every single joint fits perfectly. If you want to be successful in this trade, my biggest advice is to find your own creative style and always put extra thought into making the places no one else will ever see look just as good as the rest of the boat."

I've been wiring boats at Jarrett Bay for almost 28 years, and I still love what I do. My favorite part of the job is still wiring panels. Getting everything organized and laid out perfectly is satisfying. A big part of being a marine electrician is just being a problem solver. They’re giant puzzles. It’s a great feeling when you’re able to troubleshoot and solve an issue that no one else can solve. My biggest piece of advice for someone starting out in marine electrical is to take pride in the details of your work. These boats go far offshore with people on them. Being particular about your work isn't just about it looking good, it's about keeping people safe.
