I had high hopes when I found a document "knowledge

for Thai people to be free from motorcycle dangers" (Translation)

Such a shame that the content falls short of coming anywhere near what the title suggests.

A few examples:-

Suggesting pillion seat height should not be higher than the rider shows a very poor understanding of physics and the reality of riding motorcycles. "King and Queen" seats are common on many cruisers. It has little effect on centripetal forces compared to many other factors.

Motorcycle tyres come in a huge variety of compounds. The age of the tyre being under a year is insignificant compared to the traction offered by different tyre constructions, compounds and even pressures, non of which are mentioned.

It also suggests about the "law" that motorcyclists should use the separate left lane. 1st this is not a law. The land traffic act only refers to "returning to the left after overtaking". Yet as people are punished for not keeping left, many riders are forced to ride in the most dangerious part of the road and in danger as they are less likely to be registered by turning or emerging vehicles. No amount of reflective strips (as is suggested) will help to address that either.

It is a shame that as road safety is dogged by confirmation biased hyper compliance, the only result of this is continuing increasing numbers of riders dying on Thailand's roads.

It seems that for the first time since the pandemic started that more people are dieing of covid than are killed in road accidents every day and have been for decades.

There were a record 13,002 new Covid-19 cases, and 108 more fatalities, over the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Wednesday morning.

When passing rules are wrongly interpreted to suggest riders should only stay left rather than pass on the right this is the result. The issue is with the flawed rules and lack of real world training. Systemic issues in a system that teaches blind compliance rather than survival skills.

Approach this with real world skills development and we look for clues:-
Why is the pick up slowing down?
Are they going to turn?
Can they see me?

The driver should be more spatially aware, should use their mirrors and progressively change direction as to avoid surprising riders who have been told to keep left. But they are wrapped in a steel cage and even though blame can be pointed at them, it is not like the injuries sustained by the rider.

Just because the rider can claim they were in the right does not fix their injuries or their bike.
