What you should know as an upcoming automotive engineer
The main parts of a car can be categorized into several systems and components. Here's an overview of the primary parts:
1. Engine System
Engine: The heart of the car, typically internal combustion or electric.
Fuel System: Includes the fuel tank, pump, and injectors.
Cooling System: Radiator, coolant, water pump, and hoses.
Exhaust System: Manifold, catalytic converter, and muffler.
2. Transmission System
Transmission: Transfers engine power to the wheels (manual, automatic, or CVT).
Clutch (manual) or Torque Converter (automatic): Engages/disengages power transfer.
3. Chassis System
Frame: The skeleton of the car.
Suspension: Shocks, springs, and control arms for a smooth ride.
Steering System: Steering wheel, column, and rack-and-pinion.
Braking System: Disc or drum brakes, brake pads, and ABS system.
4. Electrical System
Battery: Powers the electrical components.
Alternator: Recharges the battery while driving.
Wiring and Fuses: Distribute electricity throughout the vehicle.
Lights: Headlights, taillights, and interior lights.
5. Body and Interior
Body Panels: Hood, doors, trunk, and fenders.
Windshield and Windows: Provide visibility and protection.
Seats and Dashboard: Comfort and control for occupants.
6. Wheels and Tires
Wheels: Support the tires and connect to the axle.
Tires: Provide traction and absorb road shocks.
7. Drive System
Axles: Connect wheels to the drive system.
Differential: Allows wheels to rotate at different speeds.
Driveshaft: Transmits torque from the transmission to the axles.
