Iris, my daughter got a brand new spoon for her porridge today. Made from a piece of birch sourced by her grandfather in Småland.

Although she’s turning seven in September, she thought I could have done a better job with the proportions between the handle and the bowl of the spoon.

What do you think?

After popular demand, few sloyd knives with birch bark handles and a wet-moulded veg-tan sheaths are finally here.

Although I started with a bigger batch I managed to finish four of them due to lack of few materials.

It has often been an intimidating yet fulfilling journey of making.

Steel, leather, wood. Three materials with different characteristics and qualities.

If you want to order one leave a comment and I will send you the link.

Let me know in the comments below what you think.

The Spoon Knife 60 is finally back in stock.

Built for spoon carving, kuksas, bowls, and general green woodworking, this knife combines a hand-forged blade by the Strongway tools team with a comfortable decagonal ash wood handle made from Swedish ash and a handcrafted leather sheath.

Unlike blades cut from sheet metal, the forged blade is thicker, stronger, and far more rigid. Extra stability means smoother cuts, less chatter, and better control while carving — whether you’re shaping a spoon blank or refining fine details.

Made from high-carbon 52100 steel with a hardness of 59 HRC, the blade holds its edge for a long time while remaining easy to maintain. The hollowed grind makes sharpening straightforward, and each knife arrives polished, sharpened, and ready to use.

Happy carving,
Dio

Shaping the wooden part of the sheath for the Birch Bark Sloyd Knife.

Pencil markings are crucial to keep me oriented throughout the shaping process.

This small bench-top sander isn’t idea, especially since using the right side of the disc can throw the piece back at you.

Steady hands, a confident grip, and protective goggles are essential. I’m in the market for a bigger sander, so feel free to point me in the right direction if you have any recommendations.

Join our mailing list to be notified when the knives become available for purchase on the site.

Saludos,

There’s something deeply satisfying about giving a handle made of birch bark its final form. The handle feels warm, and ready to be used.

This one is part of something new I’m working on.
A sloyd knife with a birch bark handle built around my D2 blade, designed and made for wood carving.
