And just like that, the 2026 Defender Trophy Selections come to an end.
-
Would I have loved to go all the way? Of course. But walking away, I can honestly say I’ve got no regrets. I pushed myself, learned new skills, met incredible people, and experienced something I’ll remember for a long time.
-
Congratulations to everyone who earned their place in the next stage, you’ve certainly earned it, and I’ll be following the Defender Trophy journey with great interest.
-
A huge thank you to the organisers, instructors, and everyone behind the scenes. The amount of work that goes into an event like this is easy to overlook, but it made for an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
-
The Defender Trophy is about much more than competition. It’s about adventure, resilience, teamwork, and stepping outside your comfort zone. I’m grateful to have been part of it. Thank you Defender ❤️

2026 DEFENDER TROPHY SELECTIONS 🗺️
-
One of the things I didn’t expect from this experience was how quickly a group of strangers could become friends. At the start of the week, the Dutch, Austrian, and Swiss participants barely knew each other. Everyone arrived focused on the challenges ahead, wondering what the next few days would bring.
-
But something happens when you put people through shared experiences. Long days, tough challenges, moments of pressure, moments of success, and a lot of laughs in between.
-
By the end of the event, the competition almost felt secondary. We weren’t strangers anymore. We were celebrating together, sharing stories, hugging goodbye, and promising to stay in touch.
-
The level of competition was incredibly high, but so was the camaraderie. Being surrounded by people who all share the same passion for adventure, teamwork, and pushing themselves made this experience even more special.
-
A huge thank you to everyone from the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland who shared this journey.
-
The challenges were memorable. The people made them unforgettable.

2026 DEFENDER TROPHY SELECTIONS 🗺️
-
Not every challenge was about speed, strength, or getting behind the wheel.
-
A big part of the experience was learning the skills that keep an expedition moving when things don’t go to plan. From mechanical training and vehicle recovery techniques to getting hands-on with hand winches.
-
Every session felt like preparation for something bigger. Building knowledge, confidence, and trust in both the equipment and the team ahead of the secret final task.
-
And then, just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, an old friend appeared. An original Camel Trophy Defender 110 rolled into camp, carrying decades of history and adventure with it. For anyone who grew up inspired by those expeditions, seeing it up close was a pretty special moment.
-
Past and present, side by side.

2026 DEFENDER TROPHY SELECTIONS 🗺️
-
One thing that quickly became clear during the selections. No two challenges are the same. One moment we were scrambling up hills, the next pushing through endurance runs, tackling strength-based tasks, or being assessed behind the wheel. Every challenge tested a different skill set, but they all had one thing in common, they demanded focus when tired and determination when things got difficult.
-
What I enjoyed most was seeing how everyone approached the obstacles differently. Some people excelled physically, others in the driving assessments, and others stepped up when problem solving and teamwork were needed most.
-
The selections weren’t just about strength, speed, or technical ability. They were about adapting, staying composed under pressure, and finding a way forward when the answer wasn’t immediately obvious.
-
A demanding few days, but an experience I’ll never forget.

2026 DEFENDER TROPHY SELECTIONS 🗺️
-
The “Extreme Off Road” assessment was exactly what the name promised. Looking at some of the obstacles, I honestly wondered how we’d get through them.
-
The answer was teamwork.
-
A driver focused on the route ahead, a guide placing the vehicle on the right line, and another teammate watching the rear tyres. Constant communication, complete trust, and suddenly challenges that looked impossible became surprisingly manageable.
-
And the Defender? It keeps blowing me away. The capability of this vehicle is one thing. Experiencing it in terrain like this is something else entirely.

No.1 Landy highlight of 2025 - Using Shepherd, our 1953 Land Rover Series 1 80” as our wedding vehicle. Nearing 8 years after the second photo was taken back in 2017, when we bought it as our first restoration project. One that will never leave the family ☺️💍
