Hi.
On 17 of May I went on my first event since 1.8t 20v engine swap.
This was 2-day event, with day and night drifting on Saturday, (with meteor lol) and then tandem battles on Sunday.
I enjoyed it all! Car ran great! Gone there and then back home on its own.
Had never drifted in tandem before, and yet managed to pull some out. Tried and was able to catch and go closer to everybody if tires allowed. Did mistakes, had a lot of close calls and yes contacts. Some worse than others. On one of the latest crashes, third car made sandwich with mine and damaged rear right quarter panel pretty badly, making it worse then before*, and send my fuel level sender off. Now I have bunch of rust holes to fix I didn’t knew were there.
Car runs so great, it proceeded to turn itself into missile car immediately. One week before* event I had a big ups, which almost put me out of event. That’s why whole right side looks so bad. Well, sh*t happens.
I’m already fixing it, and fuel sender is back in order!
Now I'm looking after getting more traction on the rear and even bigger steering angle on the front. Had more than enough power, I went for tire pressures as low as 1 bar, to gain traction.
Car is pretty much ready for next event.
Mechanically needs nothing. Bodywork does need some repairs to be able to drive on the streets.
Also I want to do a bunch of upgrades.
Overall a big success for me, because car was able to do everything I wanted, things I just couldn’t do with old 1.6 Pinto or 2.0 DOHC engine. Had just enough power to do tandems, and not too much, to smoke tires immediately.
Throttle response is excellent! I was able to link all the course with people ahead and behind me using just the throttle, without hand brake and clutch kiks.
Now I need to rise my level, bring good tires, of same dimension etc, and not old used different sizes pieces of thrash of tires I had, to make cars handling more consistent, and my driving better.
