In the past, used cars could only be brought into the country for personal use by Pakistani citizens living abroad, under special schemes like a "transfer of residence" or as a " ." This new policy opens up the used car market to the general public through formal commercial channels.

The government's committee has decided to let businesses import used , but with some new rules. Initially, only cars less than five years old can be imported, and there will be a 40% extra tax on them. This new tax will be gradually removed by 2030.

Initially, only vehicles not older than 5 years will be permitted until June 30 next year, after which age limit will stand removed, says Finance Division.
