Mercedes-Benz CLK320 Coupe – EIS Ignition Switch fixed!

Successful communications completed!

This Mercedes-Benz CLK320 Coupe came in with an EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch) failure caused by file corruption due to a low battery. The unit had ZERO communication, and this type of EIS is becoming increasingly difficult to source.

Instead of replacing the module, we successfully repaired and restored the original EIS. The result? Everything is back to working like nothing ever happened!

We’d like to share this video for technical reference and to help our customers better understand the process involved in Mercedes-Benz key programming and EZS / EIS synchronization.

This video demonstrates the activation and testing of newly programmed keys on our customer’s Mercedes-Benz EZS (Electronic Ignition Switch).

The original issue was that all factory keys had been lost, which meant the EZS no longer had a valid key available for vehicle authorization.

To restore proper operation, we carried out the following services:
🔹 Supplied 2 brand-new compatible keys
🔹 Programmed the correct key and immobilizer data
🔹 Activated and synchronized the new keys to the customer’s EZS / EIS system
🔹 Tested both keys to verify proper ignition authorization and functionality
As shown in the video, both new keys are now fully functional with the customer’s ignition switch. The vehicle can once again recognize the keys correctly and operate normally.

Procedures like this require specialized Mercedes-Benz key programming, EZS / EIS, and our goal is always to provide solutions that's safe, reliable, and convenient solution for our customers.

We provided a known good working EZS (Electronic Ignition Switch) and performed the necessary services:

✅ Correct mileage synchronization
✅ Programming and coding
✅ Relearned and paired two (2) of the customer’s original working keys.

The best part? We can do this even without the vehicle being physically present. We only need the EZS/Ignition Switch even without the keys, to carry out the programming and coding process.

Does PMS really matter?
We often encourage vehicle owners to replace certain parts before they fail, not because we're trying to sell unnecessary repairs, but because we've seen how small issues can turn into major problems when left unattended.
Car parts are not bulletproof. Components naturally wear out with age, heat, mileage, and even long periods of inactivity. In many cases, the cost of preventive maintenance is only a small fraction of what a major repair will cost later.
A good example is a simple overheating incident. Something as minor as a leaking seal can allow coolant and oil to mix, leading to overheating and eventually causing damage to the cooling system or even the engine itself. What could have been addressed early with a relatively inexpensive repair can quickly become a costly and frustrating situation.

A Simple Check-Up…

Sometimes, a car comes in for what seems like a routine service.
A simple check-up.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing extraordinary.

But when you’re dealing with a BMW S63N, nothing is ever “just routine.”

During the standard inspection, something unusual caught our attention.

A subtle irregularity.
A small anomaly.

Most shops would have checked off the standard boxes and sent the car on its way. But our premium service goes way beyond standard check-ups.

We dug deeper.
We traced, measured, observed — every sensor, every reading, every detail.

And what we discovered?
A different issue entirely, hiding beneath the surface, silently affecting performance.

A BMW Mystery Finally Solved

Some cars come in for a simple fix.
Others… arrive with a reputation.

This one had been through four shops before reaching us.
Parts replaced.
Money spent.
Fault codes erased — only to return like ghosts.
Everyone tried.
No one solved it.

I won’t mention the main issue, but I can tell you why it ended up with me:

Every shop kept replacing parts without understanding the root cause.
New sensors.
New components.
New guesses.
But the problem never disappeared.

I became the fifth technician to take on the challenge.

And instead of replacing more parts, I did something different:

I stopped. Observed. Listened.

The owner gave me full permission to use the car as my daily driver — one month of real-world testing.
That meant:

cold starts at sunrise

idle behavior as the engine warmed

response once fully heated

behavior in heavy traffic

acceleration under load

how the car breathed, hesitated, coughed, or pulled

Every symptom matters.
Every condition reveals a clue.

And slowly… the pieces began to make sense.

After cross-checking the part catalog, comparing actual part numbers, and studying how the DME reads air and fuel flow, something unusual surfaced:

The air system wasn’t just faulty — some parts simply did NOT match the vehicle.

Wrong air intake.
Incorrect DISA valve.
Mismatched throttle body.

The engine was trying to calculate fuel and air with components that didn’t belong there.
The DME was essentially being fed lies.

No wonder the fault codes kept returning.
No wonder replacing parts did nothing.

So we restored the entire intake system with the correct components:

✔️ Proper air intake
✔️ Correct DISA valve
✔️ Correct throttle body

And suddenly, the car started telling the truth again.

The pull came back.
The hesitation faded.
The DTC faults transformed from permanent to intermittent, then finally stabilized.

The engine breathed again — the way it was designed to.

It was like shining a light into a story that had been misunderstood for far too long.

This is why we test.
This is why we observe.
This is why diagnosis always outranks guessing.

Sometimes the real fix isn’t replacing more parts…
It’s understanding the car.
