WHY DECEMBER IS NOT THE BEST TIME TO BUY? ❌❌❌
I’ve been in the industry for more than 10 years and on a steady road to reaching 1,000 cars sold. Along the way, here are my reasons why December is not the best time to buy.
1️⃣ Promo - let’s get to the most popular misconception, December promo. Yes, there is still a promo but to say it can only be availed by every year end is not an entirely true statement. Big discounts and best deals are provided every month, so no need to wait for a certain month. Due to competition and market demand, we give out best deals all year round, the days of waiting for the year end promo are long gone. Lastly, if the brand, the dealer, or the agent already hits their quota, there wouldn’t be a big reason to give the maximum discount right? Don’t prolong your car needs!
2️⃣ Supply - due to shorter working days because of the Holiday season, supply is very scarce when December hits. Coupled by corporate events, cut off of suppliers and shipment of units, unit supply is at its lowest point every December. Expect a more than usual waiting time for your dream car compared than other months. Worst case: we’re already sold out. When that happens, you are either forced to change unit, change color, or wait til January, and nobody wants to spend their Holidays without their shiny new toy.
3️⃣ Approval - 80% of brand new cars are financed. If you’re going to pay through installment, you’re going to wait for a longer time to get your loan approved. Holidays, corporate events, banks hitting their quota for the year will surely make the wait a bit longer. They are also less eager or lenient to giving approvals because the demand or pressure to do so is not that material anymore compared to the months that they have to achieve a certain number of approvals. Lastly, imagine getting your car loan approved but there are no more working days to prepare for the requirements (opening accounts, getting bank statements etc.) to release your brand new car.
4️⃣ Experience - imagine going to the mall during those “3 day sale” events? Was it pleasant? Nope. The same thing happens to us, dealers. As much as we can, we do our best to give our customers the most memorable experience when buying their car. But due to panic buying and the misconception of “Christmas Promo” we get flooded by customers. We might not be able to answer your calls right away, or send quotations asap, simply enough, we might not even give you parking space when you visit us because of the number of customers just like you flocking to get a new car. And yes, we are humans too. We get tired, we get busy, and when those two things mix, mistakes happen — and we don’t want that. We also want to enjoy our Holidays just like you, we also have our plans for the weekends. We want you to feel special on your release day. We don’t want to rush you, we don’t want to pressure you, and we can’t really do that if we are overwhelmed. We want to take our time, answering all your questions, explaining the units and its features, all the documents to be signed, and giving you the most pleasant experience. This environment can be done during normal months, but December? Nope, nada.
✅ My recommendation:
BUY AHEAD OF TIME. Skip all the things I just said. It won’t cost you more 👌🏻
