🚗 What to do if an earthquake strikes while you’re driving 🌍
When the ground begins to shake while you’re in your car:
1. Stay calm — don’t slam on the brakes. Gently slow down and look for a safe place to pull over.
2. Park safely — turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.
3. Avoid hazards — stay away from buildings, tunnels, flyovers, power lines, gas stations, and anything that might collapse or fall.
4. Stay in the car if in danger — your vehicle can act as protection. Only exit if staying inside is more dangerous.
5. Watch for tsunamis near coasts — if you see shoreline receding, move to higher ground immediately.
6. Be prepared — always carry emergency gear (first aid kit, flashlight, fire extinguisher, water, etc.).
