PRAY FOR MINDANAO

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Mindanao on the morning of June 8, 2026, sending strong tremors across several provinces and prompting tsunami warnings in parts of Southern Philippines.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake occurred at approximately 7:37 a.m. near the waters off Sarangani. The agency immediately issued tsunami warnings for several coastal areas and advised residents living near shorelines to move to higher ground or farther inland as a precaution. Authorities also warned that tsunami waves could affect vulnerable coastlines and that unusual sea level disturbances could continue for several hours.

The earthquake was felt across much of Mindanao, causing panic among residents, disrupting classes and government operations in several areas, and resulting in reports of structural damage to buildings and infrastructure. Authorities immediately began conducting assessments while emergency response teams monitored affected communities for injuries and additional hazards.

PHIVOLCS urged the public to remain vigilant for aftershocks and to follow only official advisories from government agencies and local disaster management offices. Residents in coastal communities were advised to stay away from beaches, ports, and low-lying shorelines until authorities declare the area safe.

As Mindanao faces the aftermath of this powerful event, thoughts and prayers are with all affected families, emergency responders, and communities working together to recover and stay safe.

Pray for Mindanao. Stay vigilant. Stay informed. Stay safe.
