I usually say no to anyone asking me to fab a roll cage now, I've done more than enough over the years, but occasionally I'll say yes as long as it's something interesting. I'll happily put a road legal track day E92 BMW M3 into the "interesting" categorie. It's going to have an extensive chrome moly rollcage attaching to the chassis and body wherever I can and will all be TIG welded. I'm on the Motorsport New Zealand Recognised Manufacturers list which means MSNZ have seen plenty of my roll cages over the years and like what they've seen. The customer wants to have the stock dash back in it when I'm finished which adds a little complexity in terms of exactly where to run some of the tubes but shouldn't be a big deal. Pulling the dash and all of the electronics out, and then back in again on the other hand will be a drama. The job involves more than just a cage though. I've already installed a lightweight flywheel and twin plate clutch and have also completed a full air-con delete, a bigger job than it sounds. Removing the AC pump, heat exchanger and all of the plumbing involves pulling half of the engine bay apart to gain access to everything. That's all done now, time to start throwing the tube on the floor next to the car atsee what it looks like at the end. There's a cheeky little easter egg in the corner of one of the images.
