🏙️ Iconic Garage Series: The Whale Amsterdam 🐋🅿️
Some buildings catch your eye.
This one also gives you a smart place to park.
Located in Amsterdam’s Eastern Docklands, The Whale is one of those buildings that gets more interesting the longer you look at it. From a distance, it blends into the urban rhythm of Borneo-Sporenburg. Up close, you start to notice its bold angles, zinc façade and unusual “floating” shape.
A few nice-to-know architecture facts 👇
🐋 The Whale was designed by Frits van Dongen of de Architekten Cie.
🏗️ It was completed around 2000 as part of the redevelopment of the former harbour area.
🌤️ Its angled roof and lifted underbelly were not just for looks: they help bring light, air and views into the homes and inner courtyard.
🏙️ The building is often described as one of the large sculptural “meteorites” placed among the lower houses of Borneo-Sporenburg.
And yes, hidden inside this Amsterdam landmark, it’s not just nice to look at; you can also book a safe indoor parking spot right inside it.
A practical choice for parking in Amsterdam East, with iconic architecture, a convenient location and less time spent searching for a parking space.
