Abubakar Sadiq Muazu is the Founder and Executive Director of the Centre for Advocacy, Transparency, and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), one of Northeast Nigeria’s leading national humanitarian organisations. A Global Education Champion with the Malala Fund and a member of the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF) Advisory Board, he has spent more than a decade advancing locally led humanitarian action, girls’ education, and community resilience across the Humanitarian–Development–Peacebuilding nexus.
Driven by the belief that sustainable change begins with empowered local communities, Abubakar has mobilised and managed over US$6 million in humanitarian and development investments, strengthened the capacity of more than 20 national NGOs to access international funding, and led partnerships that are transforming education, protection, governance, and youth leadership across Nigeria.
His work is rooted in a simple but powerful conviction: the people closest to a community’s challenges are also closest to their solutions. Through advocacy, policy influence, and institutional strengthening, he continues to champion localisation, gender equality, transparency, and accountable leadership—creating opportunities for women, young people, and vulnerable communities to shape their own future.
Abubakar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography, a Master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management and Development Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Port Harcourt. His mission is to redefine humanitarian leadership by demonstrating that when local leaders are trusted, equipped, and empowered, they can build lasting change that extends far beyond aid.
