In one of the lectures at the just-concluded West Africa Automotive Show (WAAS), a speaker said, “EVs are here to stay,” so we just have to learn to accept them.

The current president of ASPAMDA (Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association) referenced how people resisted automatic transmission vehicles when they were first introduced, but today the story is different.

So EVs are the future—but how prepared is Nigeria for them? How many charging centers do we have? Is there even stable electricity to charge them?

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of the reasons Aliko Dangote wants to delve into electricity. People are quick to call him a monopolist and accuse the government of favoring him, but honestly, how many of our billionaire investors are even thinking about this?
