🚨 BALANCE SHAFT DON TURN ONYIOCHA TO EXCAVATOR OPERATOR! 😭🔧

Remember that talk about how a car symptom can send you chasing the wrong part? 👀

Well… OnyiOcha's 2014 Toyota Camry decided to give us a real-life demonstration. 😂🔧

The 4-Cylinder engine started vibrating badly.

Mechanic looked at it and said:

“Na engine sitting.” 👀

Ocha didn't waste time.

He went to buy an engine mount.

They installed it…

Vibration still dey. 😭

He accelerated small.

The Camry had now entered mini excavator mode. 😂🚧

Ocha went back.

Another inspection.

“Maybe na gearbox side engine sitting.”

Again, Ocha bought another mount.

Still vibrating. 😭🤣

By this time, Ocha had practically become an emergency mechanic himself. 😂

He said:

“Make I add VVT-i sensor, just in case.”

VVT-i sensor bought.

Installed.

Vibration still dey! 😭🤣

Then the suggestions started multiplying:

“Change the front tyres.”

“Check the shocks.”

“Maybe na brake discs.”

At this point, Ocha was probably wondering:

“Umunnadi village people, na una be this? Kalamine lotion don finish for una side?” 😂🤣

But here's where the story gets serious.

A severe vibration doesn't automatically mean the first part someone points at is the culprit.

On an engine equipped with a balance shaft, a worn or damaged balance shaft can be one possible source of significant engine vibration.

And sometimes, people can replace several parts around a symptom while the actual fault remains untouched.

A customer hears a strange sound.

“Replace the cylinder head.”

And just like that, the diagnosis has already been made before the actual diagnosis even begins.

🔧THE PROBLEM
One of the biggest mistakes in vehicle diagnosis is matching a symptom directly to a part.

Car vibrates? 🚗

“Change the axle.” 🔩

Car jerks? 🗜

“Gearbox problem.” ⚙️

Engine light comes on? ✨️

“Sensor.”

Car consumes oil? 🛢

“Engine don finish.”

Car consumes too much fuel?

“Na catalyst.” ⛽️

Sometimes, the suspected part really is the problem.

Sometimes, it isn't.

The same symptom can come from completely different faults. 🔧

A proper diagnosis doesn't begin with:

“Which part should we change?”

It begins with:

“What exactly is happening, and why?”

That means listening to the complaint, inspecting the vehicle, testing where necessary and tracing the symptom back to its actual cause.

AutoReality ~ Mechanic Tales

⛑️THE CUSTOMER WANTED ONLY A CRANKSHAFT. 👀🔧

A customer walked into AutoTent Biz Innovations with a list of parts to buy after an engine knock.

He handed over the list, and something immediately caught my attention. 👀

The only internal engine component on the list was a crankshaft. ✋️

Considering the extent of the damage he described, I asked:

“What about the oil pump and connecting rods?”

Because when an engine suffers a serious knock caused by oil starvation, the damage doesn't necessarily stop at the crankshaft.

The customer explained that he had already been told:

“The oil pump will be reused. The connecting rods will be smoothed out. Everything will be fine.”

But the condition of the components told a different story.

The connecting rods were visibly damaged, and the oil pump had also suffered damage.

We explained that replacing only the crankshaft would not properly address the extent of the damage.

The affected components needed to be properly assessed, and visibly damaged components should not simply be put back into an engine rebuild.

But the customer was convinced.

He wanted the crankshaft.

So he bought the crankshaft and left.

One week later…

He was back at the mechanic.

The engine had failed again. 😔🔧

And this is where the real lesson begins.

⛑️ AUTOTENT LESSON
An engine rebuild isn't simply about replacing the most obvious damaged part.

Find the cause.

Inspect the damage.

Assess the components.

Replace what has failed. 🔧

Because a new crankshaft cannot fix an engine that still has damaged components inside.

It's like pouring new w**e into an old, dirty jar. 🫗

The engine may look rebuilt…

But the failure may still be waiting inside. 👀🔧

CULTURE SHOCK? LOL!

Utalii Ndi Ilo landed a job abroad, and even till this moment, he still marvels at some of the things he sees and experiences first-hand. ✋️😂

The last time we spoke, Utalii told me:

“Life is good ooo! I don join soft life gang.” 😂

Apart from the food, clothing and housing, Utalii experienced perhaps the greatest shock of all…

His brand-new 2026 sedan. 🚗✨

Utalii, a Soji guy through and through, had started enjoying the comfort and technology that came with the car.

But there was one thing he couldn't understand.

Each time he started the car, a blue light would come up on the dashboard. 🔵👀

And Utalii was watching it like…

“Omo… wetin be this one again?” 😂

Because where he was coming from, when a strange light appears on your dashboard, your mind can immediately start calculating mechanic money. 😭🔧

But this particular blue light?

It wasn't the car crying for help.

It was actually telling him something completely different. 👀

And that was when Utalii discovered that not every warning-looking light on your dashboard means:

THAT BLUE LIGHT ON YOUR DASHBOARD DOESN'T MEAN YOUR ENGINE IS BAD. 🔵

You start your car in the morning and suddenly notice a blue temperature light on the dashboard.

Your first thought might be:

“What exactly is wrong with my car?” 🤔

In many newer-generation cars, nothing is wrong. 👍🏾

Many modern vehicles use a blue coolant temperature light to let you know the engine is still cold and warming up.

The blue light simply means the engine coolant temperature is still low and the engine hasn't reached its normal operating temperature yet.

As the engine warms up, the blue light should automatically go off. 🔵🌡️

So no…

🔵 Blue light ≠ Engine overheating

It actually means the opposite:

Your engine is still cold. 🥶🚗

While the light is on, it's a good idea to:
🔹 Drive gently
🔹 Avoid unnecessary high RPM
🔹 Give the engine time to reach normal operating temperature

🚗 AUTOTENT LESSON
Not every dashboard warning or indicator means:
“Stop the car immediately!”

Some lights are simply there to tell you what the vehicle is doing.

And knowing the difference can save you unnecessary worry and sometimes unnecessary repairs. 👀🔧

If that blue light stays on for an unusually long time, keeps returning after the engine should be warm, or changes to a red temperature warning, don't ignore it.

That's when proper diagnosis becomes important. 🔧
