Good morning, Riders.

There is a simple truth we must understand:

*YOU CANNOT ASK GOVERNMENT TO RECOGNISE AND PROTECT PEOPLE IT CANNOT IDENTIFY.*

For years, dispatch riders have worked hard, created jobs and supported Abuja’s growing digital economy.

Yet when challenges come — multiple permits, restrictions, harassment, accidents or unfavourable policies — individual riders have very little negotiating power.

This is why NUDRMON is engaging relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that dispatch riders are properly organised, identified and represented.

*PUBLIC DISCLAIMER TO ALL DISPATCH RIDERS AND MAIL OPERATORS IN NIGERIA*

The National Union of Dispatch Riders and Mail Operators of Nigeria (NUDRMON), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), wishes to formally inform government authorities, security agencies, the general public, and all dispatch riders and mail operators across Nigeria, particularly those operating within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of the following:

*The Union* has previously communicated the importance of official body-number registration and database capturing for dispatch riders and mail operators under the recognised NUDRMON process.

We have received information that some associations, groups, or individuals have commenced the issuance or generation of body numbers to riders, in some cases collecting money from riders for such numbers.

*⚠️ NUDRMON* hereby categorically dissociates itself from any unofficial issuance of body numbers, registration, or database capturing carried out outside the recognised and authorised NUDRMON process.

*All dispatch riders and mail operators* are therefore strongly advised not to pay any individual, association, or group claiming to issue a NUDRMON body number unless the registration and database capturing are being conducted through the officially authorised NUDRMON process.

*All riders* are encouraged to ensure that they are properly captured in the NUDRMON national database and obtain their official identification/body number through the appropriate channel.

*Riders* are further advised to exercise caution and avoid allowing themselves to be misled, improperly registered, or associated with unauthorised documentation or identification that could create complications or accountability issues in the future.

*The National Union of Dispatch Riders and Mail Operators of Nigeria (NURDMON), FCT Chapter* an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), wishes to formally inform government authorities, security agencies, the general public, and all Dispatch Riders within the Federal Capital Territory that NURDMON is not a party to, and does not support, the planned protest reportedly scheduled to take place in the FCT.

*We are aware of messages, voice notes, videos, and other materials containing alleged threats of violence and disturbing statements reportedly associated with the planned protest. NURDMON strongly condemns any attempt by any individual or group to use the Dispatch Riders community as a platform to promote violence, disorder, intimidation, or any other act capable of disturbing the peace in the Federal Capital Territory*

We therefore urge all responsible Dispatch Riders, particularly members of *NURDMON* to distance themselves from any violent, unlawful, unauthorized, or unapproved gathering and to refrain from participating in activities capable of endangering lives, damaging property, or disrupting the peaceful coexistence of residents of the FCT.

*NURDMON FCT Chapter* remains fully committed to protecting and promoting the legitimate interests, rights, welfare, and dignity of Dispatch Riders through peaceful, lawful, constructive, and responsible engagement with relevant government authorities, security agencies, and other stakeholders.

For the avoidance of doubt, any individual or group acting in the name of NURDMON without proper authorization does so independently and must not be regarded as representing the official position of NURDMON FCT Chapter.

We therefore call on all Dispatch Riders, *NURDMON* members, and members of the public to remain calm, peaceful, united, and responsible, and to avoid any action capable of threatening public safety or disrupting the peace of the Federal Capital Territory.

FROM VIOLATION TO JUSTICE: PROTECTING THE RIGHTS AND LIVELIHOOD OF DISPATCH RIDERS

The National Union of Dispatch Riders and Mail Operators of Nigeria (NUDRMON) has formally raised serious concerns over the persistent challenges confronting dispatch riders and mail operators across Nigeria, particularly double taxation, multiple levies, overlapping regulatory demands, harassment and alleged encroachment into the operations of dispatch riders.

The concerns were presented by the National President of NUDRMON, Comrade Emmanuel Kave Kwaghdega, at the workers' rights workshop held in Abuja on Thursday, 20 August 2026, with the theme:

“FROM VIOLATION TO JUSTICE: PROTECTING WORKERS’ RIGHTS”

The programme brought together labour stakeholders, including representatives of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), to examine the realities and challenges facing workers and trade unions.

THE BURDEN OF DOUBLE TAXATION

One of the major issues brought to the attention of the labour authorities is the problem of multiple taxation and levies imposed on dispatch riders in different parts of the country.

In the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, dispatch riders face demands for different forms of payments across the Area Councils and various locations. The concern of the union is that riders may be required to make multiple payments for similar or overlapping purposes, creating an excessive financial burden on workers whose income is already affected by the rising cost of fuel, motorcycle maintenance, insurance, registration and other operational expenses.

The National President of the National Union of Dispatch Riders and Mail Operators of Nigeria (NUDRMON) is participating in a two-day workshop focused on “From Violation to Justice: Workers’ Rights Violations.”

The important workshop is organised by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in collaboration with the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

The programme provides an opportunity to examine the realities and challenges faced by workers and trade union members, including workplace rights violations, access to justice, decent working conditions, freedom of association, collective bargaining, and the protection of workers from exploitation and unfair treatment.

For NUDRMON, the participation of our National President demonstrates our commitment to workers’ dignity, riders’ welfare, social justice and stronger trade union representation.

We believe that knowledge, solidarity and collective action are essential tools for transforming workers’ rights violations into meaningful justice.

Today, 20th August 2026, the National President of the National Union of Dispatch Riders and Mail Operators of Nigeria (NUDRMON) joined the National Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at an important workers’ rights workshop.
The workshop, themed “From Violation to Justice: Protecting Workers’ Rights,” focuses on the challenges workers face, the violation of workers’ fundamental rights, and the need for stronger mechanisms to ensure justice, dignity and protection in the workplace.
For NUDRMON, the message is clear: every worker deserves respect, fair treatment, safety, dignity and justice.
As we continue to advocate for the welfare and protection of dispatch riders and mail operators across Nigeria, we remain committed to working with organised labour and relevant stakeholders to build a system where workers’ rights are respected and violations are addressed.

*FCTA, NUDRMON SEAL PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST DISPATCH RIDER SECURITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN ABUJA*

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Transportation Secretariat, under the leadership of the Mandate Secretary, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Chinedu Elechi, has sealed a formal partnership with the National Union of Dispatch Riders and Mail Operators of Nigeria (NUDRMON) aimed at improving security, accountability and regulation within the dispatch riding industry across the FCT.

The collaboration was sealed at an official meeting between the two bodies, where the Secretariat pledged its full support and commitment to the initiative.

Speaking at the meeting, the Mandate Secretary, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Chinedum Elechi described dispatch operations as one of the most essential activities in the transport industry. He commended NUDRMON's leadership for helping government reach riders directly and assured the union of the Secretariat's full, continuous engagement.

In his remarks, NUDRMON National President, Comrade Emmanuel Kave Kwaghdega, said the union developed a membership database, online portal and unique Body Number to capture genuine riders to tackle mounting security concerns, traffic violations and accidents. He did not mince words on why the move was necessary:
"We realised that we cannot continue like this. If we want Government to protect us, if we want the public to trust us, the public must be able to identify us. And if we want to hold bad operators accountable, we must distinguish them from genuine riders."

He added that the Body Number gives "a unique, verifiable identity for every properly captured rider," and summed up the union's position in one line:
"When Government takes ownership and works with the Union, the Body Number ceases to be perceived merely as a NUDRMON project. It becomes a collaborative solution to a shared transportation and security challenge."

He described NUDRMON's vision simply as: *ONE RIDER. ONE IDENTITY.
