What does the "S" in MINI Cooper S stand for? The age-old question. Many would argue that it stands for supercharged. However, the original model wasn't supercharged. Others would say it means Sport.

When it comes to your track record in getting a loan approval. Your loan officer will consider all your credit or loan payment behaviours. This would include your PTPTN, housing loan, car loans, personal loans, credit cards, ASB, etc.

So the bank will see your track record for the past 1 year or 12 months. If there happened to be a problem in the past 10 months, you may have to wait for another 2 months. If in the past 6 months, you'd have to wait another 6 months.

As much as you might think that you may be mature enough to get yourself a car on loan. Age is unfortunately a factor that your loan officer will consider in approving your car loan. If you're under the age of 24, you may need a guarantor because the bank might not know your character enough on when it comes to paying back your dues.

On the flip side, if you are 60 years and above, your loan may not be approved for loan periods of 9 or 7 years. Maybe a maximum of 5 years.

Here is what your loan officer will consider when it comes to your salary factor in deciding your loan approval. Firstly, to them, this would be called Debt Service Ratio (DSR).

So from your monthly salary, they would deduct your commitments including your PTPTN, housing loan, personal loan, etc. From there, that figure would be divided by 3. That remaining balance would be the amount that will be allowed to you in monthly car instalment payments.

Essentially, the formula would be:
(Monthly Salary - Commitments) / 3 = Monthly Car Instalments Allowed

Additionally, banks would also consider your living expenses. So your Monthly Salary - Commitments - Car Instalments should equal more than RM 1000.

Many have experienced the uncertainties and confusion when it comes to getting your car loan approved. With that, heres a list of things that your loan approver will look out for and what your loan approval will depend on just so you have an understanding of their perspective.

1) Your monthly salary
2) Your commitments
3) Your track record (whether you have one or not, good or bad)
4) Your age
5) Scoring (Your type of work and company you work for be it private or government)

Not long ago, Malaysia's government has announced its plans for Budget 2024. Among others, service taxes are to increase to 8% from 6%. This would be applicable to vehicle servicing in terms of labour charge. This would not however be used for parts used in the course of servicing.

As a result, this would cause a higher overall servicing costs once implemented next year.

On a side note, this increment of service tax would not be applied to f&b, telecommunications, vehicle parking, or logistics.
