Wing Hin Motorsports began an incredibly supercharged season with a total of six podium finishes, including two race wins, in the TSS The Super Series and Thailand Super Series last weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Burriram.

Two podium finishes – a victory in the Pro-Am Class and 2nd overall – kicked off its 2026 title defense campaign in the GT4 Class, followed by another four podium finishes in the Super Touring Class. The team had headed into Round 1 of both championships with a total of five cars and 10 drivers.

In GT4, the action on track at the 4.554km Chang International Circuit in the opening two races of the year had all the makings of an extremely competitive season ahead as Wing Hin Motorsports sets out to retain the title it won last year.

The weekend began promisingly for the pair of Mitchell Cheah and Ryan Wong competing in the Pro-Am Class in the #39 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Cheah and Wong finished Race 1 (on Saturday) 2nd overall and 1st in the Pro-Am Class, and completed Race 2 (Sunday) in 5th place overall.

Wong was entrusted to start Race 1 and began conservatively before handing over driving duties to Cheah who used the remaining 30 minutes of the 1-hour race to chase from 7th place to cross the finish line in 2nd overall.

Automechanika Kuala Lumpur (AMKL) 2026 just kicked off recently with much fanfare at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, drawing over 317 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions across six halls. The 15th edition of Automechanika Kuala Lumpur arrives not simply as a trade event, but as a strategic platform where the direction of mobility in Southeast Asia is being actively shaped.

Officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Hasbi bin Haji Habibollah, Deputy Minister of Transport Malaysia, the exhibition’s theme - creating business synergies where automotive mobility solutions meet OEMs and the aftermarket – reflects a deliberate response to how the industry is evolving.

Ms Fiona Chiew, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, the organisers of Automechanika Kuala Lumpur, said that Malaysia is no longer just participating in ASEAN’s automotive growth story - it is increasingly helping to write it.

Among the exhibitors present were Brembo, Kovax, Schmaco, Vanli, Launch, TUHU Car Care, TecAlliance, and Leoch Battery, among the industry players who shared insights and showcased mobility solutions spanning the digital and green energy sectors – reflecting the breadth of a global automotive supply chain that increasingly sees Malaysia as both a priority market and a regional manufacturing partner.

As ASEAN accelerates its shift towards electrification and smarter mobility, Malaysia is emerging not just as a participant, but as a convening ground for the region’s next phase of automotive growth.

Malaysia’s Wing Hing Motorsports will start this weekend’s (21-24 May) TSS The Super Series and Thailand Super Series returning as defending champion with Mitchell Cheah anchoring this year’s campaign, but with partner Naquib Azlan taking on a new role as the team’s driver engineer and driver coach in the GT4 Class and fielding four cars and eight drivers in the Super Touring Class.

Cheah will instead be joined by Hong Kong driver Ryan Wong in the winning #39 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, competing in the Pro-Am Class. Wong, who competed for Wing Hin Motorsports in last year’s Super Touring Class, is one of several drivers under the team’s Customer Racing Program introduced as a gateway for the rise of young Asian drivers.

From finishing 4th in GT4 in their debut in 2024 (despite missing four of the 10 races) to winning the overall title last year, Wing Hin Motorsports’ will be banking on the commendable record it had last year (three race wins, four 2nd places and two 3rd places) at this weekend’s opening race at the Chang International Circuit.

This year’s GT4 grid strength is expected to be made up of at least five Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2, in addition to the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, Mercecdes-AMG GT4, and Aston Martin Vantage.

TSS The Super Series and the Thailand Super Series will consist of five rounds which kicks off this weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Burriram. Round 2 will be from 1-5 July at the Bangsaen Grand Prix international street racing festival in Chonburi before Rounds 3 and 4 visits the Petronas Sepang International Circuit from 21-23 August and 18-20 September respectively, and the finale returning to the Chang International Circuit from 30 Oct-1 Nov.

HARD FOUGHT 4TH PLACE AT THE 12 HOURS OF SPA FRANCORCHAMPS EARNS FOR VIPER NIZA RACING TEAM JOINT 1ST PLACE IN THE OVERALL MICHELIN 24H SERIES GTE-AM STANDINGS

This result elevates Viper Niza Racing to joint 1st place in the overall Michelin 24H European Series standings (GT3-AM Class) with Hofor Racing and HAAS RT at 56 points with three more events to go. The team is also tied for 5th in the overall GT3 Class standings, just 10 points off the leader.

While the team missed out on its desired target of a third consecutive podium finish at Spa Francorchamps – they were 2nd in the GT3 AM Class last year and won the PRO/AM class at the inaugural TCR SPA500 in 2019 – Viper Niza Racing nevertheless pulled off a valiant comeback from qualifying 15th overall and starting 9th in the GT3-AM Class on the grid.

The race was run in two parts – race 1 was held over five-and-a-half hours on Saturday before cars came into parc ferme, continuing with Race 2 and another six-and-a-half hours on Sunday.
Lining up against a grid of 40 cars, the trio of Douglas Khoo, Dominic Ang and Aaron Lim however, comes away with a small consolation of being the third highest placed team in the overall top 10 finishers driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 EVO, in a field dominated by McLaren, Audi and Porsche.

Viper Niza Racing is backed by Motul, IWC as its Official Watch Brand, Momentum Autoparts, and SPARCO Italy.
