Elvis Presley & the Legendary BMW 507 (M-JX 800 | Chassis 70079).
American Musician, The King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, born on January 8, 1935, had a fascinating connection with one of BMWโs most iconic roadsters.
On December 20, 1958, while stationed in Germany for his military service, Elvis purchased a pre-owned Feather White BMW 507 with a stylish Black & White interior. Under the hood sat a 150 bhp V8 aluminum engine, later modified to suit Elvisโ daily driving needs.
This very car had previously been driven by the celebrated racing driver Hans Stuck, adding even more historical weight to its story. Elvis bought the car for USD 3,750, at a time when a brand-new 507 cost around USD 7,160.
But fame has its price.
Elvisโ passionate female fans often covered the car with lipstick and pen-written love messages, turning the white BMW into a rolling canvas of fan devotion. With his strict military duties and responsibilities, Elvis had little time or patience for the constant repainting and cleaning.
To put an end to the problem, the car was repainted Red in August 1959. However, Elvis used the car only until October 1959, after which it disappeared from the public eye. The BMW 507 was then lost for nearly five decades.
Fast-forward to around 2014:
Automobile journalist Jackie Jouret discovered the long missing BMW 507 abandoned and dusty in a warehouse near Half Moon Bay, close to San Francisco. The building, once used for Pumpkin storage, belonged to Jack Castor, who had unknowingly preserved a priceless piece of automotive history.
BMW later acquired the car and fully restored it to its original condition returning it to the elegant Feather White finish it wore during Elvisโ ownership.
Today, this historic BMW 507 is reportedly displayed at the BMW Museum in Munich, where fans from around the world can admire it once again.
