AN OPEN LETTER FROM A CAMBODIAN CITIZEN
PLEASE DO NOT LOOK AWAY
To Nations, , , Committee of the Red Cross, and the world:
I am not a politician.
I am not a soldier.
I am just a Cambodian citizen.
And today, my heart is breaking.
According to official updates from the Ministry of National Defence of Cambodia, Thai armed forces have crossed into Cambodian territory and attacked our land. These are not rumors. These are documented timelines.
Homes have been shelled.
Villages have been bombed.
Schools, hospitals, hotels, bridges — destroyed.
Children have been killed.
Infants have died.
Families have lost everything.
Even our pagodas and sacred temples have not been spared.
And worst of all — Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a treasure of all humanity, has been attacked. This is not only an attack on Cambodia. This is an attack on history, culture, and civilization itself.
F-16 fighter jets.
Heavy artillery.
Drones.
Toxic gas.
Used against civilian areas.
How is this allowed in 2025?
Cambodia has called for peace. Cambodia has respected ceasefire agreements. Yet bombs keep falling. Silence from the world only makes the violence louder.
I ask the international community — where is justice?
Where is the protection of civilians?
Where is the meaning of international law?
If ancient temples can be bombed, if schools and hospitals are not safe, if children are not protected — then what does the world stand for?
Please.
Do not stay silent.
Do not look away.
Stand with civilians.
Stand with culture.
Stand with peace.
Makara PICH
A Cambodian Citizen
