Disclaimer!!! not mine, written by Amram Oyugi

I blocked my multimillionaire friend on WhatsApp late last year because I noticed I was mentally becoming a slave to her.

She would call me anytime she needed my help, and I would render it to her without thinking twice, but when I needed her help, she would either not pick up or reply to her messages, or her number would not go through.

At times, she read my chats and won't reply.

This happened for a while; when I complained, she would apologize.

Last year, we spoke about something important, and she had to do her part to fulfil the deal; I kept calling and sending messages, but she ignored them. I knew she was back to it again, I cancelled the deal and blocked her on all communication channels.

She was obviously using me and trampling on my intelligence, I later realized she had enslaved me mentally, maybe because she is richer or something.

I blocked her.

I was at work last week when a number called and I picked, it was her, I recognized her voice immediately.

"Why did you block me everywhere? What have I done to you? She asked and that got me pi**ed off more because I felt she was still trying to play on my intelligence.

I told her to figure it out and call me to talk about it and not trying to play smart on me. I said and dropped the call.

She called back hours later and started apologizing and giving unreasonable excuses, she pleaded that I unblock her which I did.

She called yesterday to propose a deal and I declined immediately.

She was shocked.

She requested to see me physically and I told her I don'thave the time, she should look for someone else.

"I guess that's why you called after 8 months of not communicating, you are back to your old ways, guess what, once beaten thrice shy, I am done taking sh*to from you, let's just be a casual good morning and good night friend"

She didn't believe I could be that blunt. Her message came in again this morning trying to convince me that she'

Mental change is needed!

They lied to us. Don't miss this!

They said passing KCSE was the only path to success, yet today, degree holders hawk sweets in traffic while plumbers and mechanics build houses and buy plots.

They lied to us!

They told us if we spoke fluent English, we’d go far, yet now call centre jobs require American accents, and even village elders are asking, “Sasa hii English itatuletea chakula kweli?”

They lied to us!

They made us believe boarding schools build discipline, yet our children come back broken, bullied, and burdened by pressure to get an A or be called a failure.

They lied to us!

They told us only white-collar jobs matter, yet today, mjengo boys are raising families, while some office workers can’t afford rent after the 20th.

They lied to us!

They said arts and sports were a waste of time, yet our musicians, runners, and content creators now feed families and represent Kenya globally.

They lied to us!

They pushed foreign syllabuses and exams into our schools, while our own history, heroes, and languages are forgotten — buried beneath British kings and Shakespeare.

They lied to us!

They said failure in school means failure in life, yet the mama mboga who didn't finish Class 8 built rentals and paid school fees for her children through grit and wisdom.

But now we see.

Now we rise.

LIFE LESSONS

LIFE LESSONS

My Life after campus has been so hard.

My life after campus has been nothing like I imagined. I thought graduating would be the beginning of everything, but instead, it felt like the beginning of endless waiting. I’ve applied for more than a thousand jobs —

I thought once I finished school, things would fall into place. I believed I would get a job, start earning, and build my life. But that didn’t happen. I’ve applied for so many jobs ... jobs I’m qualified for, jobs I’m overqualified for, even internships .... more than I can count. Every day I write emails, fix my CV, send applications, and wait. Most times, no one replies. Sometimes I get rejection messages that break my heart.

My uncle who promised to help me get a job doesn’t pick my calls anymore. People at home keep asking, “What are you doing with your life?” “When will you get a job?” I smile and say, “Soon,” but deep inside I’m tired. I feel like I’ve failed.

It hurts when I see my classmates doing well — posting pictures at work, traveling, or starting businesses, while I’m still struggling. I try to stay strong, but some days I just want to cry. I sleep too much to avoid thinking. I stay quiet because I don’t know what to say anymore.

I feel sad, lost, and alone. But I know I’m not the only one. Many of us are going through this silent pain. If you’re reading this and you feel the same, please remember you’re not alone. This doesn’t mean we’ve failed, it’s just a hard season.

One day, things will get better. Until then, let’s keep going. Slowly. Step by step.
