Realized I don’t have pics of this thing on my profile, and I hope it cools down a bit next month so I can ride it again. I wish I had more friends who were into scooters because they’re so cheap to mod, aftermarket support for these 2-strokes is huge, and they’re so damn fun even in stock 50cc form. Haven’t touched my Zoomer/Ruckus since I got a Dio. The goal for this build was just a cool cruiser with bolt-ons that would be reliable to ride even in the rain if the car ever goes down.
I bought this 2nd Dio unexpectedly when I went with to pick up his AF27. Owner had this non-running, true ZX AF28 sitting in the corner of his shop and he offered us a package deal plus delivery. The front and rear brakes were locked up, all three struts blown, fairings mismatched and broken, seat was crusty and torn, leaking 2-stroke oil, dirty ass carb, and of course battery dead.
Spent way too much on 30 year old OG purple inner/outer plastics, then restoring them with boiled linseed oil and paint thinner, overhauled the brakes with Daytona parts, put an AF35 Zenki carb with re-jet, YSS rear coilover, NCY carbon forks, Stage6 carbon mirrors, paint matched some AF35 ZX wheels, re-wrapped the seat, ZX rear wing, Posh grips, V8 Chamber, custom “pancit canton” floor mat from the PI, TWPO Carbon Intake cover, TWPO Billet Quick Throttle, some variator/roller weight tuning with KNPlanning parts, and Dunlop TT93GP in 90/90/10. Prolly some other stuff I’m forgetting but it’s was a fun 8 month, under-$1000 (including cost of bike) budget build.
Just gotta fix the red wiring on theAF28 SR now so I can do a 72cc build on it and really have some fun!
