Hakuba Resort buses and Hakuba Valley buses run until March 31st. The major ski resorts will run until May 6th. If you are looking for alternative transportation to the buses either before or after March 31, we have our rental vehicles on low season rates now. Just visit www.hakubacarrental.com to book. PSA: if you are coming to Hakuba, please apply for your international drivers permit before coming. Even if you haven’t rented a car, we often find guests want to rent as soon as they figure out the landscape of Hakuba. So what do you need to rent?

1) International Driver Permit. Japan requires the original physical booklets issued in the last 1 year (covering your last driving date). Copies, digital versions, card versions are not valid. Indonesia + Mainland Chinese IDPs are not valid in Japan as they aren’t signatories to the 1949 Geneva Road convention. They need to be issued by your country or territories official issuer. Certain websites issue “IDP” - these are not valid.

2) Local license from your country.
3) Passport.

Why rent locally? Guaranteed 4-wheel drive, ski racks, snow tyres. There are reasons to rent from Nagano or the airports, but please don’t come with non-snow tires or 2WD. It puts everyone in danger and causes huge delays in the traffic.

Please be prepared! We’ve had so many walk-ins that we have to turn away. No tears!
