Kawasaki Engines

Signature Kawasaki engines form the heart of the new generation of bimota models.

The KB4 / KB4RC feature the Ninja 1000SX’s engine, delivering excellent response in the low-rpm range.
Powering the Tesi H2 is the Ninja H2’s supercharged engine, offering superior power and exhilarating acceleration.
The Tesi H2 TERA selects the Z H2’s supercharged engine, tuned for street riding.
The BX450 is equipped with the KX450 engine, delivering hard-hitting performance in the dirt.
And the KB998 Rimini features the Ninja ZX-10RR engine, proven with seven Superbike World Championship titles.

Kawasaki power units are indispensable for bimota.

bimota and Kawasaki Join Forces

At EICMA 2019, bimota announced a capital tie-up with Kawasaki and unveiled the Tesi H2—limited to 250 units—combining Kawasaki’s supercharged Ninja H2 engine with bimota’s iconic Tesi system.

Led by longtime supporter Pierluigi Marconi, this marked the beginning of a dream collaboration between Kawasaki’s power and bimota’s inspired engineering.

And the partnership between bimota and Kawasaki will continue to grow even stronger in the future.

New-Generation Tesi System

The first model announced by bimota after entering a new chapter in 2019 was the Tesi H2, combining bimota’s iconic Tesi centre-hub steering system with Kawasaki’s supercharged engine.

To handle the immense power of the supercharged engine, a new-generation Tesi system was developed. For added rigidity and strength, parts are machined from billet aluminium, with CFRP used in the arm joints and aerospace-grade adhesives ensuring lightweight construction.
bimota further evolved the concept of Tesi, enabling off-road capability.

Introduced in 2024, the performance crossover model Tesi H2 TERA features the “TERA” centre-hub steering system, which enables wider steering angles than the current Tesi.
The distinctive on-the-rails handling of the Tesi system is now expanding in every direction.

Legacy of the KB Series

The collaboration between bimota and Kawasaki dates back to 1978.

The first model was the KB1, featuring the Z1000/Z1000 MkII engine. It became the best-selling model among bimota’s pipe-frame machines.
It was followed in 1981 by the KB2. Powered by a mid-size Kawasaki engine (400–550cc), it is said to have been the model Massimo Tamburini loved the most.
Then, in 1983, the third generation arrived: the KB3, powered by the Z1000J engine.

Years later, after forming a capital alliance with Kawasaki in 2019, bimota introduced the KB4 in 2020. The model reinterpreted the classic KB style with a modern update.
In 2024, the KB4RC was unveiled—a naked model created to share the KB4 concept with an even wider range of riders.

The evolution of the KB series shows no sign of stopping.

Birth of the Tesi System

Pierluigi Marconi, who now leads bimota, used to treat the bimota factory as his playground when he was still a university student—before joining the company.

During his student years, Marconi conceived the original idea for the frameless centre-hub steering system known as “Tesi,” and began its design and development.
The name “Tesi” itself comes from the Word “thesis”.

The original design drawings from that time already featured a Kawasaki engine—almost as if they had foreseen the partnership that would come in the future.

Riders Who Made History

At the heart of bimota flows a racing spirit.
Together with great racing riders, the brand has left a vivid mark on motorsport.

In 1980, Jon Ekerold captured the 350cc World Championship title aboard the YB3, powered by a Yamaha TZ350 engine. This victory became the catalyst that propelled bimota into the full-scale motorcycle business.
In 1987, Virginio Ferrari secured the TT-F1 World Championship title with the YB4 powered by a Yamaha FZ750 engine.
In 2000, bimota entered the Superbike World Championship with the SB8K powered by a Suzuki TL1000 engine. Anthony Gobert took victory in Race 1 at Round 2 in Phillip Island.

Riders Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani carry forward the racing spirit of bimota, continuing the pursuit of the next chapter of racing success.

Unique Frame Designs

A defining element when speaking about Bimota is its unique frame designs.

Bimota has developed pipe frames offering both light weight and a high degree of freedom in design and rigidity, hybrid frames combining multiple materials, and aluminium frames using Anticorodal alloy, a material also employed in aircraft structures—pursuing the distinctive Bimota riding feel characterised by lightness and a high level of manoeuvrability.

This approach continues to be carried forward in today’s Bimota models.
