Greetings from Team Grease Monkeys!
We are a student team that designs and builds an ATV from scratch and competes in the prestigious SAE India's BAJA Series. SAE BAJA challenges engineering undergraduates to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough and wet terrain . As in real work situations, these future engineers work together as a team to discover and resolve technical challenges in design, manufacturing and business issues. The most rugged of all the competitions, SAE BAJA also gives students the first-hand challenge of pursuing their passion while managing real-life demands and priorities. Each team's goal is to design and build a prototype of an all-weather, rugged, single-seat, off-road recreational vehicle intended for sale to the nonprofessional weekend off-road enthusiast.
In the latest season of 2020-21, our All India Rank was 24 and we secured the 3rd rank in the Static Events and we among the top 10 teams in the Design Event.
Due to the pandemic and lockdown, the team was at home, quarantined for about 1.5 years. This has caused us to lose valuable time and we are trying our best to make up for the lost time by working tirelessly day and night. Now that the team is finally back on campus, the manufacturing process has commenced but we are facing a number of challenges on the financial front.
There are three reasons that have caused this-
This is the first season of BAJA where we will be implementing a four-wheel-drive mechanism in our vehicle which has resulted in a surge in our expected expenses.
Due to the pandemic, the SAE BAJA 2020-21 was held online and the car wasn't manufactured. Most of our parts have either expired or have been damaged. SAE has a three-year rule which states that we cannot use the same components for more than 3 years.
Sponsorship is highly affected and unreliable due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, we are working tirelessly and hopefully towards getting some sponsorship.
