A real scale model of the chassis helps us visualize things better. We used the model (made with cardboard tubes and wood) to take ergonomics measurements and verify a few rules of the Formula Bharat event.

We mark the completion of the design phase of the chassis for our vehicle. The Formula Bharat Rulebook provides a whole bunch of rules that the chassis design and fabrication process should satisfy. Keeping in mind all the crucial rules, we came up with the above design.

With multiple angles to vary (camber, caster, toe angle, KPI, etc.) the suspension geometry becomes difficult to maneuver, let alone finding the optimal solution. Its design is still the most important for all vehicle dynamics.

The visualization, provided by a website www.vsusp.com, helps us understand the effects of variations of different angles and their plots with other parameters.

One of the most important part of designing a vehicle is the design of the chassis. The chassis is the skeleton of the vehicle, with everything integrated/mounted on it. We started working on the SolidWorks model of the chassis, beginning from the base sketch. Deciding the lengths and angles of each chassis member proves to be crucial for the optimal working of the vehicle.

A part of our team visited the KLE Technological University, Hubballi to seek some guidance from the team Vegadooth Racing, a well experienced team in the domain of Formula Bharat. We extend our thanks to the team for all the information and the helpfulness they offered. We hope to continue such interactions with them.

What does it take to make a car? A gigantic industry? A long assembly line? A hierarchy of staff with expertise in their respective fields? How about a bunch of undergraduates who have the zeal to learn, analyze and create? We at Ingene, IIT Dharwad may be a new fish in the pond, but we're certainly not the ones to lose hope. With an aim to participate in Formula Bharat 2021 we begin our endeavor.
