玻璃盆栽的起源可追索至19世紀的英國。當時的人們發現個別小植物在玻璃容器裡生長得特別健康。由於玻璃盆栽不受空氣污染和氣候劇變的影響，人們得以帶著小植物漂洋過海。而種植玻璃盆栽更成為了英國Victoria Era時期家居的一種風潮，精巧地結合了實用主義和自然美學。
