Porsche 964 Carrera RS in PTS Rubystar
Some cars are difficult to describe, because there are simply too many highlights; this random 964 sitting subtly in a public garage is one of them.
Let us start with the model. The 964 generation came in as a much awaited successor to the long-living G-series 911, whose production ran from 74' to 89'. From the start, the 964 generation was infused with racing heritage; it arrived after Porsche had built its flagship supercar of the time, the 959. That is, the 964 shared many technologies derived from the 959, such as the AWD system appearing on the 964 Carrera 4 models. Whereas for the Carrera RS, it boasts the RS badge that translated to Porsche's "pure sports" design language. Lightweight and track-oriented modifications to the basic Carrera 2 meant the Carrera RS reduces unnecessary options and goes back to the simplicity of dynamic driving experience. To Porsche, the ability to blend track and road driving together has always been the signature expertise, and this Carrera RS model is exactly a reflection of their masterpiece.
Next, it is the color. While somehow many 992.1 builds are completed in Rubystar nowadays, some may not know that the PTS color actually initially appeared on the 964 Carrera RS in 1992. Alongside the introduction of the 964 generation, Porsche expanded the scope of PTS availability from an exclusive offer for Turbo models. Hence, this Rubystar Carrera RS iconically captured the essence of Porsche's spirits in demonstrating personalizations.
Finally, it is the location. For some reasons, in Hong Kong, spectacular cars are often found in the most common places imaginable. With the historical and sentimental value of this sample, it would surprise no one if it sits in a controlled environment like a showroom. Instead, this Carrera RS just sits quietly next to an Alphard (maybe the ultimate two car solution?). Perhaps, being out in the public is what Porsche intended for these amazing machines; special, capable, but not unapproachable.
