30-80% of fresh engine oil comes out as waste oil and in 2013 alone, Ghana imported 45 million litres of engine oil, amounting to $1.014 billion dollars. Meaning just in 2013, $300-800 million worth of waste oil was disposed off in Ghana while it could have been recycled and re-refined into new engine oils, diesel fuel and bitumen.
