1979 Austin Mini – A story of first love, loss, and reunion. ❤️
This classic blue-and-white Mini was the very first car its owner ever bought. After selling it years ago, fate brought it back into his hands — and now, it’s here for a much-needed paint correction and protection.
The paint tells its age: the original white is heavily faded, swirled, and stained, while the aftermarket blue stripes, though newer, still carry their share of wear. With rust beginning to show in places, this project is less about chasing perfection and more about a patina restoration — preserving character while reviving lost shine.
Prep was different this time. Instead of the usual strong degreasers, iron removers, and pressure wash, I employed a RINSELESS wash and clay bar treatment. This approach keeps things gentle, avoids driving moisture into rust-prone spots, and safely removes embedded contaminants without risking further damage.
Next step: correction work to carefully bring back depth and gloss, while respecting the Mini’s vintage character. 🚗✨
Would you have kept the Mini in its patina state or started fresh with a respray?
